Ari is an administrative zone in South Ethiopia Regional State. Until August 2023, Ari was a part of the South Omo Zone. [2] It is named for the Aari people, whose homeland is in the zone. Ari is bordered on the south by South Omo Zone, on the Northeast by the Gofa Zone and North by the Basketo Zone. The administrative centre of Ari Zone is Jinka.

Hadiya is a zone in the Central Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. This zone is named after the Hadiya of the Hadiya Kingdom, whose homeland covers part of the administrative division. Hadiya is bordered on the south by Kembata, on the southwest by the Dawro Zone, on the west by the Omo River which separates it from Oromia Region and the Yem Special Woreda, on the north by Gurage, on the northeast by Silte, and on the east by the Alaba Zone; the woredas of Mirab Badawacho and Misraq Badawacho form an exclave separated from the rest of the zone by Kembata. The administrative center of Hadiya is Hosaena.

North Omo Zone was a zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. It was named after the Omo River, which flows in the western area of the former zone. In 2000 it was split into three zones: Dawro, Gamo Gofa, and Wolayita; and Basketo and Konta became special woredas.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Konso Zone</span> Zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State

Konso is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State, Ethiopia. It was formerly a woreda. Prior to 2011, Konso was not part of any Zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and was therefore considered a special woreda, an administrative subdivision which is similar to an autonomous area. In 2011, the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established, which includes Konso special woreda and the 3 former woredas surrounding it. This special woreda is named after the Konso people. Located in the Great Rift Valley, Konso is bordered on the south by the Oromia Region, on the west by the South Omo Zone, on the northwest by Alle special woreda, on the north by Dirashe special woreda, on the northeast by Amaro special woreda, and on the east by Burji special woreda. The Sagan River, which flows south then west to join the Weito, defines part of the woreda's boundary with Burji and the entire length of the boundary with the Oromia Region. The administrative center is Karati; other towns in Konso include Fasha and Sagen. After protesting by residents to become a zone for several years, Konso became a zone in November 2018.

Ethiopia is administratively divided into four levels: regions, zones, woredas (districts) and kebele (wards). The country comprises 12 regions and two city administrations under these regions, plenty of zones, woredas and neighbourhood administration: kebeles. Kuraz is one of the woredas in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. It is the homeland of Daasanach people. Part of the Debub Omo Zone, Kuraz is bordered on the south by Kenya, on the west by the Ilemi Triangle, on the north by Nyangatom, and on the east by Hamer. The Omo River is flowing through Kuraz to Lake Turkana at the border of Kenya. The administrative center of this woreda is Omorate. Nyangatom woreda was separated from Kuraz.

Gofa Zone is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. It was previously one of the 17 Zones in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. Within the SNNPR, Gofa Zone was bordered to the south by Kamba and Daramalo woredas, to the southwest by the Debub (South) Omo Zone, to the west by the Basketo special woreda, to the northwest by Dawro Zone, to the north by the Dawro Zone, and to the east by Kucha. The administrative center of Gofa Zone is Sawla; other towns included Bulki. Gofa Zone was separated for Demba Gofa Woreda, Geze Gofa Woreda, Zala Woreda, Malo Koza Woreda, Gada Woreda, Uba Debretsehay Woreda, Oyda Woreda and the two town Administrations Sawla town and Bulki town.

Bako Gazer is one of the woredas in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. It is also called Southern Aari as it is part of the homeland of Aari people. Part of the Debub Omo Zone, Bako Gazer is bordered on the south by Bena Tsemay, on the west by the Mago River which separates it from Selamago, on the north by the Basketo special woreda and Gelila, on the northeast by the Gamo Gofa Zone, and on the east by Male. The administrative center of this woreda is Jinka; other towns in Bako Gazer include Tolta and Wub Hamer. Gelila and Male woredas were separated from Bako Gazer.

The Tsamai people are an ethnic group of southwestern Ethiopia. They speak a Cushitic language called Tsamai, which is one of the Dullay languages, and thus related to the Bussa and Gawwada languages.

Silt'e is bordered on the south by Halaba, on the southwest by Hadiya, on the north by Gurage, and on the east by the Oromia Region.

Gamo Zone is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. Gamo is bordered on the south by the Dirashe special woreda, on the southwest by Debub (South) Omo and the Basketo special woreda, on the northwest by Konta special woreda, on the north by Dawro and Wolayita, on the northeast by the Lake Abaya which separates it from the Oromia Region, and on the southeast by the Amaro special woreda. The administrative center of Gamo is Arba Minch.

Wolayita or Wolaita is an administrative zone in Ethiopia. Wolayita is bordered on the south by Gamo Zone, on the west by the Omo River which separates it from Dawro, on the northwest by Kembata Zone and Tembaro Special Woreda, on the north by Hadiya, on the northeast by the Oromia Region, on the east by the Bilate River which separates it from Sidama Region, and on the south east by the Lake Abaya which separates it from Oromia Region. The administrative centre of Wolayita is Sodo. Other major towns are Areka, Boditi, Tebela, Bale Hawassa, Gesuba, Gununo, Bedessa and Dimtu.

Debub Ari is a district of Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region in Ethiopia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kercheche</span> Town in Wolaita, Ethiopia

Kercheche or is a town in Diguna Fango woreda, Wolayita Zone of South Ethiopia Regional State. Kercheche is about 10 km (6.2 mi) north of Bedessa and about 8 km (5.0 mi) southwest of Bitena on the road of Sodo-Dimtu Hawassa. The approximate distance from the city of Addis Ababa to the town is 362 km (225 mi) on Addis-Hawassa-Dimtu-Sodo road. It is 38 km (24 mi) from Sodo, the capital of Wolayita Zone. The coordinate point of Kercheche lies between 6°57'21"N 37°59'29"E. The amenities in the town are 24-hours electric light, pure water service, kindergarten, primary school, high school, all time market, health stations and others. Kercheche has also dry weather and all weather roads which connect it to other surrounding areas.

The Southwest Ethiopia Region, officially the Southwest Ethiopia Peoples' Regional State is a regional state in southwestern Ethiopia. It was split off from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) on 23 November 2021 after a successful referendum.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ale Zone</span> Zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State

Ale or Alle is an administrative zone in South Ethiopia Regional State. In 2011 Ale was included in the Segen Area People's Zone. Ale demanded their own district for decades and secured woreda status in 2011. Before 2011, the Ale were a minority in the then Konso and Dirashe Special Woredas. Ale got Zonal status upon inauguration day of South Ethiopia Regional State in August 2023. The zone is named for the Ale people, whose homeland is in the zone. Ale is bordered on the North by Gamo Zone, on the East by the Gardula Zone, West by the South Omo Zone and South by the Konso Zone. The administrative centre of Ale Zone is Kolango.
