Anshu Malik (born 5 August 2001) is an Indian freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal in the women's 57 kg event at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships held in Oslo, Norway. [2] [3] She is the first Indian wrestler to win a silver medal at the World Championships in the women's division.
Anshu won gold in the 60 kg category of the Cadet Wrestling Championships. [1] [4] [5]
In 2020, she won one of the bronze medals in the 57 kg event at the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships held in New Delhi, India. [6] In the same year, she won the silver medal in the women's 57 kg event at the 2020 Individual Wrestling World Cup held in Belgrade, Serbia. [7] [8]
In Asian Wrestling Championships 2021, Malik bagged Gold along with her Indian teammates Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran. [9]
In April 2022, she won one of the bronze medals in the 57 kg event at the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Ulaanbaatar. [10]
In the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, she had to settle for the Silver Medal after reaching the women's 57 kg freestyle final. [11]
After overcoming an injury with a long recovery period, she went on to win the National Wrestling Championships against Sarita Mor. She trained with the undefeated Japanese wrestler Akari Fujinami in 2024 in order to prepare for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. [12] She competed at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and she earned a quota place for India for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [13] She competed in the women's 57 kg event at the Olympics. [14]
She was born in a Jat Malik family. She comes from a family of wrestlers. She trains under coach Jagdeesh at the Chaudhary Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School in Nidani. Anshu's father Dharamvir Malik, was an international wrestler himself and worked with the CISF. [15]

Geeta Phogat is a freestyle wrestler who won India's first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. She is also the first Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympic Summer Games.
Babita Kumari Phogat is an Indian wrestler, who won the gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also won silver medals at 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2010 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships. Babita Phogat entered politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019.
Pooja Dhanda is an Indian wrestler from Budana village of Hisar district in Haryana, who won Bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships at Budapest in 57 kg weight class. She won Silver medals at 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast in 60 kg and 57 kg category respectively. The grappler also won a Bronze at the 2014 Asian Wrestling Championship. Pooja has defeated Olympic and World Championship medalists. Government of India honoured her with the Arjuna award for outstanding performance in the field of Sports.
Vinesh Phogat is an Indian professional freestyle wrestler. She is a multiple Commonwealth Games gold medalist, having won golds at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Games. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth and Asian Games after she won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. She has also won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships.
Sakshi Malik is a former Indian freestyle wrestler. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. In 2017, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian award and in 2024, she became the first Indian wrestler to feature in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. She is a part of the JSW Sports Excellence Program, along with fellow female wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.
Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye is a Nigerian freestyle wrestler. She competed in the women's freestyle 53 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won the gold medal and at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships where she won a bronze medal. She won the silver medal at the women's freestyle 55 kilograms 2017 World Wrestling Championships.
Mahavir Singh Phogat is an Indian amateur wrestler, senior Olympics coach and politician. He is the trainer and father of the Phogat sisters. The Hindi biographical film Dangal is loosely based on his life.
The Phogat sisters are six sisters from Haryana, India, all of whom are wrestlers. In order of their birth, they are Geeta, Babita, Priyanka, Ritu, Vinesh, and Sangeeta. While Geeta, Babita, Ritu, and Sangeeta are daughters of former wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, Priyanka and Vinesh were brought up by Mahavir after their father, who is the younger brother of Rajpal, died when they were young. Mahavir trained all six of them in wrestling in their home village of Balali in Bhiwani district.
Yui Susaki is a Japanese freestyle wrestler. She won the gold medal in the women's 50 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics without conceding a single point to any opponent. In the 2024 Summer Olympics, she was defeated by Vinesh Phogat, her first ever loss in any international bout. She eventually won a bronze medal through the repechage bout. She is also a four-time World Champion, having won her first title in 2017. She is coached by Shoko Yoshimura.
Divya Kakran is a freestyle wrestler from India. Divya has won 60 medals, including 17 gold medals in the Delhi State Championship, and has won the Bharat Kesari title eight times. She has been vocal about being disappointed by the lack of support from the government of Delhi in her pursuit for a medal at the Asian Games in 2018, despite writing to the government about her poor financial background. Divya is presently employed with the Indian Railways as senior ticket examiner.
Iryna Alyaksandrauna Kurachkina is a Belarusian freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal in the women's 57 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Kurachkina is also a two-time bronze medalist at the World Wrestling Championships and a five-time medalist, including three golds, at the European Wrestling Championships. She also won the gold medal in her event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus.
Yusneylys Guzmán Lopez is a Cuban freestyle wrestler. She is a gold medalist at the Pan American Games and the Pan American Wrestling Championships. She is also a three-time medalist, including gold, at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Guzmán competed in the women's 50 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Guzmán lost to Vinesh Phogat in semifinal but still qualified to the final round of women's 50 kg event at the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris, France as Vinesh Phogat, the original opponent of Sarah Hildebrandt was disqualified before the final game for being overweight by 100 grams. She lost to Hildebrandt, but would win the silver medal.
Zhamila Bakbergenova is a Kazakhstani freestyle wrestler. She is a three-time medalist in the women's 72 kg event at the World Wrestling Championships. She is a five-time medalist, including three gold medals, at the Asian Wrestling Championships. She is also a two-time medalist at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Yuki Irie is a Japanese freestyle wrestler. In 2018, she won the silver medal in the women's 50 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the final, she lost against Vinesh Phogat of India.
Dauletbike Yakhshimuratova is an Uzbekistani freestyle wrestler. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's 48 kg event at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Sonam Malik is an Indian woman wrestler from Sonipat, Haryana. She won a gold medal at the National Games, and two gold medals at the World Cadet Wrestling Championship. She won a bronze in 62 kg in the 2022 Asian Games.
