Being Globally Responsible Conference (BGRC) is an annual, 2-day corporate social responsibility (CSR) event held in May at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China. Activities during the event include keynote speeches, discussion panel, and workshops surrounding a designated theme. It was initiated by a CEIBS MBA student Sam Lee back in 2006. Currently, it is the earliest and largest MBA student organized international CSR conference in Asia-Pacific and a flagship event of CEIBS MBA.
Since its incubation, BGRC has expanded throughout the years:
1st BGRC (2006)- 3 days conference held in June. All 300 participants reached ‘Shanghai Consensus 2006’, agreeing to terms such as not working for companies that are irresponsible in an environmental or social context.
2nd BGRC (2007)- 3 days conference held in May. Participants included 150 MBA students from over 20 business schools in Asia-Pacific area and over 50 business professional and NGO representatives.
3rd BGRC (2008)- 3 day conference held in June. For the first time, there were students from international schools. Attendees included MBA students from 22 domestic and 17 international schools.
4th BGRC (2009)- 2 day conference held in June. BGRC Invited 46 local and global top business schools to participate. For the first time, it had an exclusive Live Broadcasting media web page reporting the event (by Tencent). There were also added activities such as a student essay competition and interactive gaming.
5th BGRC (2010)- 2 day conference held in May. At this event, Green Campus, a committee geared towards turning CEIBS into an exemplary institution in sustainable and environmental issues, was introduced. Activities also included photographic exhibitions and environment promotion movie shows.
2007- Responsible Leaders, Building a Sustainable Future
2008- New horizon, better world, highlighted topics included environmental protection, poverty reduction and social entrepreneurship
2009- Make a Difference, encapsulated the message of how to empower the individual to take measures that are implementable and quantifiable in the area of sustainability
2010- Better City, Better Life, focused on social value of sustainable development. This was tied to 2010 Shanghai EXPO

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a form of international private business self-regulation which aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically oriented practices. While once it was possible to describe CSR as an internal organizational policy or a corporate ethic strategy, that time has passed as various national and international laws have been developed. Various organizations have used their authority to push it beyond individual or even industry-wide initiatives. In contrast, it has been considered a form of corporate self-regulation for some time, over the last decade or so it has moved considerably from voluntary decisions at the level of individual organizations to mandatory schemes at regional, national, and international levels.
Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is a public business school located in Joka, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was the first Indian Institute of Management to be established, and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India in 2017. Programmes offered by IIM Calcutta include a two-year full-time MBA,a one-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma(PGPEX-VLM), a one-year MBA for experienced executives, Doctor of Business Administration programme, a two year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics, and a one-year full-time programme in Healthcare Management. IIM Calcutta is one of only three triple accredited business schools in India, and the first to get the recognition. It is also the only business school in India which is a part of the CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education.
Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) is a premier Business School located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the eastern Indian state of Odisha featuring regularly among the top 20 bschools in India. Established in the year 1987, XIMB is governed by the Government of India, the Government of Odisha, and the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The school was founded under what the parties called a 'social contract' between the Government of Odisha and the Jesuits in Odisha, with Fr. Romuald D'Souza SJ being its founder-director. XIMB has been part of the exclusive Super League of B-Schools (Top-10) in India - the highest tier rated by All India Management Association (AIMA). It is also the Centre of Excellence in Fiscal Policy and Taxation (CEFT) set up by the state government. With the establishment of XIM University, XIMB has become a constituent school under the university focusing exclusively on business management programmes. For admission into the MBA & EMBA programmes of the institution aspirants need to appear for CAT, XAT, GMAT and XGMT. And, for the PhD programme in Business Management the standard admission procedure set by XIM University is followed by the institution.
China Europe International Business School is a business school located in Shanghai, China.
IESE Business School is the graduate business school of the University of Navarra. Founded in 1958 in Barcelona where its main campus is located, IESE in 1963 formed an alliance with Harvard Business School (HBS) and launched the first two-year MBA program in Europe. IESE has campuses in Barcelona, Madrid, Munich, New York and São Paulo.
Henri-Claude de Bettignies is a French professor of business. He holds the EU Chair for Global Governance and Sino-European Business Relations at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), is Director of the Europe China Center for Leadership and Responsibility. He is AVIVA Chair Professor of Leadership and Responsibility at INSEAD, specialized in Asian business, leadership, business ethics and corporate social responsibility. He is one of the longest-serving faculty at the INSEAD MBA Programme, where he coordinates several executive education programs.
Bernd Herbert Schmitt is a professor of international business in the marketing department at Columbia Business School, Columbia University in New York. He is known for his research, books, speaking and consulting on customer experience, customer happiness, branding and innovation and for his work in Asia on Asian markets and consumers. He wrote several influential books in these areas like Experiential Marketing, Customer Experience Management, Big Think Strategy and Happy Customers Everywhere.
University of San Francisco International Business Plan Competition has been held each year from 2004 to 2009 involving teams of students presenting a business plan to judges. A cash prize is awarded to the winning team.
John Anthony Quelch CBE is dean of the University of Miami School of Business at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, in the United States.
Net Impact is a nonprofit membership organization for students and professionals interested in using business skills in support of various social and environmental causes. It serves both a professional organization and one of the largest student organizations among MBAs in the world. From its central office in Oakland, the organization supports over 300 autonomous volunteer-run chapters and a membership base of over 100,000, with programs and networking events centered on topics such as corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, nonprofit management, international development, and environmental sustainability.
Marjorie Yang Mun-tak GBS is Chairwoman of Esquel Group, a Hong Kong-based textile and apparel manufacturer with operations throughout the world, producing over 110 million cotton shirts every year for well-acclaimed brands and retailers such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, Nike, and Marks and Spencer.
S³ Asia MBA is a selective dual degree, tri-city, tri-university global MBA program. Students enrolled in this program study one semester each at three business schools - School of Management of Fudan University, Korea University Business School of Korea University and NUS Business School of National University of Singapore. The name of the program, S³, is derived from the first letter of the three cities where the business schools are located: Shanghai, Seoul and Singapore. It is claimed that presently, the program is the only one of its type in the world.
The Graduate Business Forum (GBF) is a United States-based non-profit foundation best known for its annual global Graduate Business Conference. The conference brings together top business leaders, political leaders and selected student government presidents and vicepresidents from the top 55 MBA Business Schools in the world to exchange best practices on student government, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community service and to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world from a responsible leadership perspective. The Forum also organizes a series of regional meetings throughout the year.
A corporate social entrepreneur (CSE) is someone who attempts to advance a social agenda in addition to a formal job role as part of a corporation. CSEs may or may not operate in organizational contexts that are predisposed toward corporate social responsibility. CSEs' concerns are with both the development of social capital and economic capital, and the formal job role of a CSE may not necessarily be connected with corporate social responsibility, nor does a CSE have to be in an executive or management position.
The CBS International Business School (CBS) is a state-recognised, private business school which emerged in 2020 from the individual brands Cologne Business School (CBS) and European Management School (EMS). At its locations in Cologne, Mainz and Potsdam, it offers approximately 1,900 students its predominantly English-language business management study courses with the academic degrees Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science and MBA. Manfest-Varchasva is the annual management and cultural festival organized by Indian Institute of Management Lucknow in the third week of January every year. The three day festival is the biggest B-school festival in Asia, facilitating interaction among B-school students, faculty and corporates. The festival hosts various management competitions, paper presentations, quizzes, debates, case study analysis and interactive industry-student sessions.
The World Resources Forum (WRF) is a non-profit organisation for sharing knowledge about the economic, political, social and environmental implications of global resource use. WRF promotes resource productivity among researchers, policymakers, business, NGOs and the public. In addition to organizing international and regional conferences, the WRF Secretariat coordinates multistakeholder dialogue projects, amongst others the Sustainable Recycling Initiative (SRI) as well as the H2020 projects Towards a World Forum on Raw Materials (FORAM), and CEWASTE. The WRF contributes to other EC-projects and projects with the German development organisation GiZ, UNEP and UNIDO.
The Council on Business & Society (CoBS) is a global alliance open to schools of business and management with a mission to educate tomorrow's responsible leaders and promote sustainable business practices among professionals. It convenes international forums focusing on topics at the crossroads of business and society and the common good that bring together leading academics, students, policy makers, NGOs, international organisations and business leaders. Previous forums have covered the topics of Leadership and Governance, Health and Healthcare, and New Energies. The CoBS also runs a yearly student CSR article writing competition, fosters inter-school faculty exchange and CSR-specific research projects.
