It borders the districts Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, Eluru and East Godavari, and shares a boundary with the bordering states Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The district comprises 24 mandals and 2 revenue divisions, Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam.
