Brama dussumieri, the lesser bream or lowfin pomfret, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a pomfret of the family Bramidae. It is found in warm seas around the world.
The specific name honours the French explorer and trader Jean-Jacques Dussumier (1792-1883).

Brama dussumieri like many bramids serves as an important forage fish for large, pelagic, predatory fishes. B. dussumieri have been successfully collected from the stomachs of bigeye and yellowfin tuna and striped marlin, suggesting that they serve a similar role for fast swimming, open ocean predators. Brama dussumieri can be found throughout the high seas of all tropical oceans (e.g. Atlantic, Pacific, Indo-Pacific) [3] [6] and associated seas, such as the Yellow and Sea of Japan off the coast of Korea. [7]
Brama dussumieri specimens have been collected at various life stages, including larval and juvenile, globally, suggesting that there is no specific localized spawning area. [3] Juveniles have been collected throughout the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, eastern Atlantic, Gulf Stream of Chesapeake Bay, and the Indo-Pacific at various times through the year. In some locations (i.e., the Indo-Pacific), young can be collected nearly every month of the year. [3] [8]
Females are thought to reach sexual maturity by 170mm standard length. Egg diameter ranges from 0.3mm - 1.6mm, depending on the gonadosomatic index (GSI), with larger eggs being present in females with a high GSI. [8]
Brama dussumieri had its complete mitochondrial genome sequenced in 2018 and found to be a characteristic the typical Brama mitochondrial genome. The genome contains 26.21% adenine, 25.65% thymine, 16.83% guanine, and 31.31% cytosine, appearing nearly identical to that of Brama japonica , a congener. [9]
Amberjacks are Atlantic and Pacific fish in the genus Seriola of the family Carangidae. They are widely consumed across the world in various cultures, most notably for Pacific amberjacks in Japanese cuisine; they are most often found in the warmer parts of the oceans. It is a fast-swimming predator, taking small fish, cephalopods, and a wide variety of planktonic crustaceans. The species reaches sexual maturity around 60 cm (24 in), and spawning takes place at different times, with some populations spawning year round, while others only spawn at certain times of the year. The species is a well known game fish, taken by a variety of fishing methods, and is a well-regarded table fish. Large numbers of the species are taken as bycatch in tuna- and shark-fishing operations and marketed.
Cross Seamount is a seamount far southwest of the Hawaii archipelago, about equidistant from the cities of Honolulu and Kona. It is one of the numerous seamounts surrounding Hawaii, although unrelated to the Hawaiian hotspot. It is notable for being one of the best studied of the numerous seamounts surrounding Hawaii, as it has been included in numerous biological surveys, most recently in 2007. It is also a site of offshore fishing, for its abundant tuna. The fishery management problems at Cross Seamount are typical of management problems in many fisheries, and its small size makes it a scientifically useful model for the analysis of fishery management.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands has a commercial fishery that targets bigeye and yellowfin tuna using pelagic longline fishing gear. There were 55 longline vessels licensed to fish in the Republic of the Marshall Islands Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in 2011, of which 4 were Marshall Islands-flagged and 51 were foreign-licensed vessels, including 22 Chinese-flagged, 16 Japanese-flagged, 11 Federated States of Micronesia-flagged, and 2 Taiwan-flagged. The Japanese-flagged longliners land their catch in Japan; the other 39 vessels were domestically-based. In 2011, the Marshall Islands longline fleet had reported landings of principal market species of 259 mt of bigeye tuna, 99 mt of yellowfin tuna, 37 mt of blue marlin, 7 mt of black marlin, 4 mt of albacore tuna, and 3 mt of broadbill swordfish. Fresh chilled bigeye and yellowfin tuna is exported primarily to markets in the U.S., China and Canada, and frozen tuna and incidental market species are exported to China and marketed locally.

T. rubescens is closely related, and quite similar, to Taractes asper, but adults can most easily be distinguished by the bony keel present on the caudal peduncle. In fact, this bony keel is unique to Taractes rubescens and will distinguish it from all other bramids.
