The Western Region is located in south Ghana, spreads from the Ivory Coast in the west to the Central region in the east, includes the capital and large twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast, coastal Axim, and a hilly inland area including Elubo. It includes Ghana's southernmost location, Cape Three Points, where crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in June 2007. The region covers an area of 13,842 km2, and had a population of 2,060,585 at the 2021 Census.
Elmina is a town and the capital of the Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem District on the south coast of Ghana in the Central Region. It is situated on a bay on the Atlantic Ocean, 12.2 km (7.6 mi) west of Cape Coast. Elmina was the first European settlement in West Africa and it has a population of 33,576 people, as of 2013. The current Municipality chief of Elmina is Hon. Solomon Ebo Appiah.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger and first Birim South District in 1988, which was created from the former Birim District Council, until the western part of the district was split off to create a new Birim South District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Birim Central Municipal District, with Akim Oda as its capital town. However, on 15 March 2018, the eastern part of the district was split off to become Achiase District; thus, the remaining part has been retained as Birim South District. The district assembly is located in the southwest part of Eastern Region and has Akim Swedru as its capital town.
Ejisu-Juaben Municipal District is a former district that was located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989 when it was known as Ejisu-Juaben District which was created from the former Ejisu-Juaben-Bosomtwe District Council. It was later elevated to municipal district assembly status in 2007 to become Ejisu-Juaben Municipal District. However on 15 March 2018, it was split off into two new municipal districts: Ejisu Municipal District and Juaben Municipal District. The municipality was located in the central part of Ashanti Region and had Ejisu as its capital town.
Jomoro Municipal District is one of the fourteen districts in Western Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Jomoro District, which was created from the former Nzema District Council, until it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018 to become Jomoro Municipal District. The municipality is located in the southwest part of Western Region and has Half Assini as its capital town.

Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988, when it was known as Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem District, it was created from the Cape Coast Municipal Council, until it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 29 February 2008, to become Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem Municipal District. The municipality is located in the southwest part of Central Region and has Elmina as its capital town.

The municipality is located in the southwest part of Central Region and has Cape Coast as its capital town; which is also the regional capital of the Central Region.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Upper Denkyira District in 1988, which was created from the former Denkyira District Council, until the northwest part of the district was split off to create Upper Denkyira West District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Upper Denkyira East District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year to become Upper Denkyira East Municipal District. Yendi Municipal District is one of the sixteen districts in Northern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Yendi District, which was created from the former East Dagomba District Council, until it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 29 February 2008 to become Yendi Municipal District. However, on 28 June 2012, the western part of the district was later split to create Mion District with the remaining part retained as Yendi Municipal District. The municipality is located in the central part of Northern Region and has Yendi as its capital town.
Tema Metropolitan District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally created as a municipal district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until two parts of the district were later split off to create Adenta Municipal District and Ashaiman Municipal District respectively on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part was elevated to metropolitan district assembly status on that same year to become Tema Metropolitan District. However on 28 June 2012, the eastern part of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District ; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. Later on 15 March 2018, a small western portion of the district was split off to create Tema West Municipal District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. The metropolis is located in the central part of Greater Accra Region and has Tema as its capital town.
Asante Akim Central Municipal District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 as the 1st Asante Akim North District, which it was created from the former Asante Akim District Council. Later it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Asante Akim North Municipal District in November 2007. However, in July 2012, the northern part of the district was split off to create a new Asante Akim North District; thus the remaining part has been renamed to become Asante Akim Central Municipal District. The municipality is located in the eastern part of Ashanti Region and has Konongo as its capital town.

Adansi Asokwa is the capital of the Adansi Asokwa District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The district itself was created out of the Adansi North District by Legislative Instrument in 2018. It is located in the southern half of the region on the N8 highway running from Kumasi, capital of the region to Yamoransa near Cape Coast, capital of the Central Region. It is also the main town in the Asokwa Area Council, one of four in the district.
