Effia is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Sekondi is located in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly of the Western Region of Ghana. [1]

The University of Ghana awards a Diploma in Nursing after students from the institution have successfully completed a three-year nursing training programme. The institution is accredited by the National Accreditation Board. The Nurses and Midwifery Council is the regulates the activities, curriculum and examination of the. The council's mandate Is enshrined under section 4(1) of N.R.C.D. 117.

Albert Bosomtwi-Sam was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He belonged to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Bosomtwi-Sam started the Bosumtwi - Sam & Associates Law Firm in Takoradi in the Western Region. He served as Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency from 1992 to 1996. Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal District is one of the fourteen districts in Western Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District on 29 February 2008, until the western part of the district was split off to create Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal District on 15 March 2018; thus the remaining part has been retained as Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District. The municipality is located in the southeast part of Western Region and has Kwesimintsim as its capital town.
