The 2020 Ghanaian general election was held on 7 December 2020 to elect Members of Parliament (MPs) to the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic. [1] The Speaker is not an elected member of parliament though is qualified to stand for election as such. There are a total of 275 constituencies in Ghana. The 8th Parliament convened on 7 January 2021 to elect a Speaker and Deputy Speakers as well as for the administration of oaths to the Speaker and Members of Parliament.

Some of the MPs who had been in parliament for many years decided not to stand again in the 2020 election. There were 11 in this category including Alban Bagbin, MP for Nadowli West constituency and previously Nadowli North since 2001. As many as 40 NPP MPs lost their primaries while 9 suffered the same fate in the NDC. [2]

Assin North is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The Assin North constituency is located in the Assin North district of the Central Region of Ghana.
Aquinas Tawiah Quansah is a Ghanaian politician and a former member of the Parliament of Ghana and deputy Central Regional Minister of Ghana. He was appointed by President John Evan Atta Mills and served till January 2013.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is a Ghanaian politician and businessman who represents Assin Central in parliament as a member of the New Patriotic Party. He was first elected as a member of parliament in 2000 to the seat of Assin North. He retained his seat in the year 2004 and 2008 parliamentary elections. In 2012, he was elected in the new seat of Assin Central and was re-elected in 2016. He also retained his seat in the 2020 general elections. He is currently the Chairman of the Parliament's Defense and Interior Committee. As an aspirant in 2023 for the presidential candidacy of the NPP, he lost to Mahamudu Bawumia.
Kwabena Owusu Aduomi is a Ghanaian politician and a Member of Parliament of Ghana. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the deputy minister for Roads and Highways in Ghana.

General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama announced that he would contest the results. At the Supreme Court, a petition challenging the result was filed on 30 December, and unanimously dismissed on 4 March 2021 for lack of merit.

James Gyakye Quayson is a Ghanaian politician who was elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency in the 2020 General Elections until his eligibility was challenged in a High Court. Controversy: in violation of Article 92, Clause 2a of Ghana's constitution, "a person shall not be qualified to be a member of parliament if he owes allegiance to a country other than Ghana". In a ruling on Wednesday, 28 July 2021, a Cape Coast High Court presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye declared the 2020 parliamentary election held in the Assin North constituency, null and void. He was re-elected after a by-election held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 and sworn in on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
General elections will be held in Ghana on 7 December 2024 to elect the president and members of Parliament. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo is term-limited and thus ineligible to run again.
