Mfantseman is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Mfantseman is located in the South Dayi district of the Volta Region of Ghana. It was created in 2012 ahead of the 2012 Ghanaian general election.

Elections

Ekow Hayford the NPP MP for Mfantseman was murdered by armed robbers on the Nkusukum Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze Road on his way from a campaign trip for the 2020 Ghanaian general election. [10] [11] As his death was less than three months before the 2020 election, Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Ghanaian Constitution stipulates that there should not be a by-election in the constituency. [12]

Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly is one of the twenty-two districts in Central Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Mfantsiman District, which was created from the former Mfantsiman District Council; until it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 29 February 2008 to become Mfantsiman Municipal District. However, on 28 June 2012, the eastern part of the district was split off to create Ekumfi District; thus, the remaining part has been retained as the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly. The municipality is located in the southwest part of Central Region and has Saltpond as its capital town.

Aquinas Quansah is the member of parliament for the constituency. He was elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won a majority of 3,176 votes to become the MP. He succeeded Stephen Asamoah Boateng who had represented the constituency in the 4th Republic parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Aquinas Tawiah Quansah is a Ghanaian politician and a former member of the Parliament of Ghana and deputy Central Regional Minister of Ghana. He was appointed by President John Evan Atta Mills and served till January 2013.

Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey is a Ghanaian politician and a former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North. She was a member of the Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.

Ekow Hayford was a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He was killed on 9 October 2020. He was also the chief executive officer of Apam Football Club.

General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama announced that he would contest the results. At the Supreme Court, a petition challenging the result was filed on 30 December, and unanimously dismissed on 4 March 2021 for lack of merit.
