Euristhmus is a genus of eeltail catfishes native to the eastern Indian-western Pacific Oceans around Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia.
There are currently five recognized species in this genus: [1]
E. lepturus is known from Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia to Sydney, New South Wales, and New Guinea, in freshwater, estuarine and near-shore marine habitats. E. microceps originates from Shark Bay to Broome, Western Australia, in near-shore habitats over soft bottoms. E. nudiceps inhabits near-shore habitats over soft bottoms of Shark Bay, Western Australia to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and New Guinea. [2] E. nudiceps is found along coastlines and in estuaries, including freshwater reaches. [3]
Euristhmus species grow to about 33.0–46.0 centimetres (13.0–18.1 inches) TL. [3] [4]
Cnidoglanis macrocephalus is a species of catfish of the family Plotosidae, and is the only species of the genus Cnidoglanis. It is commonly known as the cobbler, estuary cobbler, deteira, estuary catfish, South Australian catfish, or Swan River catfish.
The eeltail catfish are a family (Plotosidae) of catfish whose tails are elongated in an eel-like fashion. These catfishes are native to the Indian Ocean and western Pacific from Japan to Australia and Fiji. The family includes about 41 species in 10 genera. About half of the species are freshwater, occurring in Australia and New Guinea.
The shark catfishes form the family Pangasiidae. They are found in fresh and brackish waters across southern Asia, from Pakistan to Borneo. Among the 30-odd members of this family is the plant-eating, endangered Mekong giant catfish Pangasianodon gigas, one of the largest known freshwater fish. Several species are the basis of productive aquaculture industries in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.
Bagrus is a genus of bagrid catfishes. These are relatively large catfish found in freshwater habitats in Africa, except for the virtually unknown B. tucumanus from South America, which likely is a synonym of Luciopimelodus pati.
Tridensimilis is a genus of pencil catfishes native to South America.
Tridentopsis is a genus of pencil catfishes native to South America.
Pseudostegophilus is a genus of pencil catfishes native to rivers in tropical South America. The members of this genus are obligate parasites that feed on scales and mucus of other fish.
Parastegophilus is a genus of pencil catfishes native to South America.
Schultzichthys is a genus of pencil catfishes native to South America.
Stegophilus is a genus of pencil catfishes native to South America.
Parakysis is a genus of catfishes of the family Akysidae. It includes six species.
Ictalurus is a genus of North American freshwater catfishes. It includes the well-known channel catfish and blue catfish.
The toothless catfish is a species of catfish of the family Plotosidae. This fish originates from northern Australia, including Fitzroy, Daly, East Alligator, Roper, Mitchell, and Archer Rivers, in lentic and lotic freshwater habitats. It grows up to about 40.0 centimetres (15.7 in) TL.
The freshwater cobbler, Tandanus bostocki, is a species of catfish of the family Plotosidae. The freshwater cobbler originates from coastal drainages of southwestern Australia, from the Frankland River to the Moore River. The species may reach about 50 centimetres (20 in) total length.
Oloplotosus is a genus of eeltail catfishes endemic to the island of New Guinea.
Paraplotosus is a genus of catfishes native to Australasia and South-east Asia.
Plotosus is a genus of eeltail catfishes native to the Indian Ocean, the western Pacific Ocean and New Guinea.
Galeichthys is a genus of sea catfishes in the family Ariidae, the only genus in the subfamily Galeichthyinae. It includes four predominantly marine species distributed in Southern Africa and northwestern South America:
Ketengus typus, the bigmouth sea-catfish, is the only species in the sea catfish genus Ketengus.
Copionodon orthiocarinatus is a species of catfish of the family Trichomycteridae. It is found in the Mucujê River, a tributary of Paraguaçu River in Bahia, Brazil. This species reaches a length of 7.5 cm (3.0 in).
