Far North Dallas is the section of the city of Dallas, Texas which extends north of the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway.Far North Dallas is part of North Dallas, however is viewed as a distinct area. The area has strong social and economic ties to two inner suburbs of Dallas, Richardson and Addison.
Dallas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Dallas County, with portions extending into Collin, Denton, Kaufman and Rockwall counties. With an estimated 2018 population of 1,345,047, it is the ninth most-populous city in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. Located in North Texas, the city of Dallas is the main core of the largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States and the largest inland metropolitan area in the U.S. that lacks any navigable link to the sea. It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country at 7.5 million people as of 2018. The city's combined statistical area is the seventh-largest in the U.S. as of 2017, with 7,846,293 residents.
Texas is the second largest state in the United States by area and population. Geographically located in the South Central region of the country, Texas shares borders with the U.S. states of Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north, New Mexico to the west, and the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas to the southwest, and has a coastline with the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast.
North Dallas is an area of numerous communities and neighborhoods in Dallas, Texas. The phrase "North Dallas" is also sometimes used to include any suburb or exurb north of Dallas proper within the metropolitan area. The majority of North Dallas is located in Dallas County, while a small portion is located in Collin and Denton Counties. North Dallas generally includes areas of Dallas north of Northwest Highway, along with Lake Highlands and areas of Dallas north of IH-635 known as Far North Dallas. The area has strong social and economic ties to the Dallas enclave of Park Cities, and two inner suburbs of Dallas, Richardson and Addison. It is the wealthiest part of Dallas, but has its adjacent, less resourced areas as well.
The following neighborhoods are generally considered part of or closely connected with Far North Dallas; however, some of them may not be located entirely within Far North Dallas or may be considered parts of Far North Dallas by some and not others.
The Collin County portion of Far North Dallas is served by the Plano Independent School District, zoned to Plano West Senior High School. Portions of Far North Dallas in Dallas County are served by the Richardson Independent School District, zoned to J.J. Pearce High School (Richardson) or Richardson High School (Richardson). The Denton County portion of Far North Dallas is served by the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, and students are zoned to R.L. Turner High School or Newman Smith High School.
Collin County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 United States Census, the county's population was 782,341, making it the seventh-most populous county in Texas and the 45th-largest county by population in the United States. The 2017 Census Bureau estimate for Collin County's population was 969,603, and reached 1,005,146 in 2018. Its county seat is McKinney.
Plano Independent School District is a public school district in southwestern Collin County, Texas, based in Plano. Plano ISD serves about 100 square miles (260 km2) of land, with 66 square miles (170 km2) of it within the City of Plano. The district also takes students from northern portions of Dallas and Richardson, and portions of Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Lucas, Murphy, Parker, and Wylie.
Plano West Senior High School is a public high school in Plano, Texas serving high school juniors and seniors. The school is part of the Plano Independent School District, and enrolls students based on the locations of students' homes. Students at Plano West attended one of two high schools: Jasper or Shepton. Plano West is accredited by the Texas Education Agency, which designates the school as "Recognized." The school colors are royal blue, black, and white, and the mascot is the wolf. The school is ranked as 22nd in the nation, and as the #1 comprehensive high school in the State of Texas, according to Newsweek's 2016 list of best public high schools.
The University of Texas at Dallas is a public research university with its main campus in Richardson, Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System. Approximately one-third of the campus is located within Dallas County, with plans to open an on-campus DART train stop on the Silver Line (2022). The institution, established in 1961 as the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest and later renamed the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies (SCAS), began as a research arm of Texas Instruments. In 1969, the founders bequeathed SCAS to the state of Texas, officially creating The University of Texas at Dallas.
The University of Texas System is a government entity of the state of Texas that oversees 14 educational institutions throughout the state including eight universities and six health institutions. The UT System is headquartered in Downtown Austin, and has a total enrollment of over 216,000 students and employs more than 87,000 faculty and staff. The UT System's $27 billion endowment is the largest of any public university system in the United States. As of 2018, Reuters ranks the UT System among the top 10 most innovative academic institutions in the world.
Richardson is a principal city in Dallas and Collin counties in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2015 American Community Survey, the city had a total population of 106,123. Richardson is an affluent inner suburb of Dallas. It is home to the University of Texas at Dallas and the Telecom Corridor, with a high concentration of telecommunications companies. More than 5,000 businesses have operations within Richardson's 28 square miles (73 km2), including many of the world's largest telecommunications and networking companies, such as AT&T, Verizon, Cisco Systems, Samsung, ZTE, MetroPCS, Texas Instruments, Qorvo, and Fujitsu. Richardson's largest employment base is provided by the insurance industry, with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas's headquarters, a regional hub for GEICO, regional offices for United Healthcare, and one of State Farm Insurance's three national regional hubs located in the community.

As the majority of North Dallas was developed in the late 20th century, the primary mode of local transportation is the automobile and the area has a low density compared with neighborhoods built in the early 20th century. Efforts made by the City of Dallas and Dallas Area Rapid Transit to increase the availability of alternative modes of transportation have received varying degrees of support from Far North Dallas residents. However, plans to build a commuter or light rail line through the Far North Dallas area along the "Cotton Belt" (the St. Louis Southwestern Railway) has met opposition from residents and local organizations.
Addison Airport, a general aviation airport, is located adjacent to North Dallas in Addison.
The Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) is a network of seven community colleges in Dallas County, Texas (USA). It is headquartered at 1601 S. Lamar St. in Dallas. The Colleges of the DCCCD serve more than 70,000 students annually in academic, continuing education and adult education programs.
Brookhaven College is a public community college in Farmers Branch, Texas. Brookhaven is one of seven independently accredited colleges of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). Brookhaven opened in 1978, making it the newest college in DCCCD.
Holmesburg is a neighborhood in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Holmesburg was named for the descendants of Judge John Holme (1632–1704) who immigrated to Philadelphia in the 1680s and had no apparent relation to Surveyor General Thomas Holme. John Holme's descendants acquired land in Lower Dublin, north and south of Frankford Avenue and west of the Pennypack Creek. At the turn of the 19th century they began selling numerous small parcels of their holdings in what became a real estate boom. Also at this time, John Holme, the great grandson of the first John Holme, renamed his lumber yard the Holmesburg Lumber Yard. This renaming coupled with the multitude of Holme family real estate transactions identified this area as 'Holmesburg', the title surviving more than two hundred years later.

Hillcrest High School, formerly Vickery Meadows High School is a public secondary school located in North Dallas, Texas (USA). Hillcrest High School enrolls students in grades 9–12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District. In 2018, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.
Woodbridge is a neighborhood of 229 homes in the Lake Highlands neighborhood of Dallas, Texas (USA) near the border with Richardson. Its borders are roughly: to the west Audelia Road, to the south by Forest Lane, to the north by Shadow Way, and to the east by railroad tracks.

Midtown is a mixed-use development district under development in Dallas, Texas (USA). The area is located in North Dallas, bordered by Interstate 635 on the south, Dallas North Tollway on the west, Spring Valley Road on the north, and Preston Road on the east. The development is next to Galleria Dallas, an upscale shopping mall, and is located at the southern end of the Platinum Corridor.
