Freddie Rodriguez (born September 8,1965) is an American politician and emergency medical technician currently serving in the California State Assembly for the 53rd district,which encompasses part of the Pomona Valley. A Democrat,he was previously a member of the Pomona City Council.
Rodriguez worked as a full-time emergency medical technician for thirty years prior to being elected to the assembly,holding an EMT certificate from Mt. San Antonio College,and continues to work for American Medical Response on a part-time basis. [1]
Rodriguez was first elected to the assembly in a 2013 special election to replace then-Assemblymember Norma Torres,who was elected to the California State Senate in a special election. He narrowly defeated independent Onatrio Mayor Paul Leon. [2]
Rodriguez is term-limited and could not run for re-election in 2024. His wife,Michelle,advanced to the general election alongside a Republican. [3]
In 2024,Rodriguez ran in the Pomona mayoral election. He lost to incumbent Mayor Tim Sandoval,placing second with 27.98% of the vote. [4]

The Foothill Extension is a construction project extending the light rail A Line,a part of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The project begins at the former terminus of the former Gold Line at Sierra Madre Villa station in Pasadena and continues east through the "Foothill Cities" of Los Angeles County. The plan's first stage,"Phase 2A",extended the then-Gold Line to APU/Citrus College station in Azusa;it opened on March 5,2016. The first part of "Phase 2B" will extend the now A Line a further four stations to Pomona–North station on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line in Pomona,broke ground in December 2017 and is planned for completion in early-January 2025. The second part of Phase 2B will further extend the line two stations to Montclair Transcenter in Montclair,located in San Bernardino County,is planned to break ground in spring 2025 and be completed in 2030.

Spadra Cemetery is a historic 2.5 acres (1.0 ha) cemetery in Pomona,California. Containing 212 graves,it is protected by the Historical Society of Pomona Valley (HSPV),which offers occasional tours,the only time the site is available to the public,as it is locked behind a large gate. It is located underneath SR 57. Many of the site's gravestones are vandalized or deteriorated.
