Os Garridos Clube de São Domingos (also in the Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK and the São Vicente Crioulo) is a multisport club that plays in the Santiago Island League South Zone in Cape Verde. The team is based in the town of São Domingos in Calheta de São Miguel in the eastern part of the island of Santiago. Its clubs includes football (soccer), handball and basketball. The team has never won any titles.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

São Domingos is a city in the central part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. In 2010 its population was 2,818. It is the seat of the São Domingos Municipality. It is situated 13 km southeast of Assomada and 13 km northwest of the capital Praia, along the national road from Praia to Assomada (EN1-ST01). The settlement appeared in the 1747 map by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin as St. Domingo.

Its logo colors are white and blue. The logo features a sea-blue circle with an eagle in the middle and is encircled by a navy blue seal reading the club and the foundation date.

As of 2015, its home uniform colors has a blue t-shirt and shorts and black socks.

History

The club was founded on May 15, 1948. Garridos played their first championship matches after being registered around 1950. Garridos' worst season was in 1968 where the club lost to Académica da Praia 21-0.

Associação Académica da Praia is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is played along with Praia's three other famous teams in Estádio da Varzea, the club also practices at the stadium and over a kilometer east in Achada Grande Frente. Its current president is Kiki and manager is Janito Carvalho who coached Sporting Praia in the previous season.

Os Garridos celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1973 in the last two years of Portuguese rule.

After Cape Verdean independence, Garridos celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1998. Later, Garridos would be placed in the Santiago Island League North Zone in 2001 when the championships split into two zones, the club played at Cumbém, then at Pedra Bajedo. [1] [2] [3] They remain until the early 2010s, Garridos switched to the South Zone along with other clubs in the municipality and started playing at Estádio da Várzea. The club in the 2013–14 season played in the second division and now they played for the next three seasons in the premier division. The club finished 7th with 19 points in the 2014/15 season and scored 12 goals, in the 2015/16 season, the club finished 10th now just outside the relegation zone with 18 points and had 5 wins and 14 losses, Garridos scored 27 goals which was the fifth highest in the championship. In week 20, Os Garridos defeated the weak Delta at the time was about to be relegated. As both Os Garridos and Varanda had no further wins for the remaining two weeks, Varanda had 16 points, it saved Os Garridos from being relegated into the Second Division. Garridos did not had a single win in the 2016-17 season until January 28 after defeating Bairro (also known as ADESBA) 0-1, currently as of the 20th round, the club has 6 points and is 11th but inside the relegation zone which has since the third round, Garridos had a final chance to remain in the Premier Division at the 21st round, Garridos kept their possible chance after their second win over Praia's top three Travadores, the score being 0-7, it made it the highest scoring match in seasons for the club and the region's second behind Boavista's 8-0 earlier who defeated this club, their high goal scoring was their revenge over Garridos' massive 8-0 loss to Boavista earlier, a top three club of the city and Southern Santiago, lastly they defeated ADESBA. The final match of the season was a goal draw with Celtic Praia, the point difference was one behind Eugénio Lima and Garridos was finally relegated and will spend the following season in the Second Division. Garridos conceded 45 goals, in the final rounds, they conceded the most up to the 22nd round and became second ahead of Travadores and behind Vitória.

Estádio de Cumbém, also as Estádio Municipal de Cumbém is a multi-purpose stadium in the city of Assomada, seat of the municipality of Santa Catarina in the island of Santiago, Cape Verde and is located in the suburb of Cumbém located south of the centre, accessed with Avenida 15 de Dezembro. It is one of four that are operated by the Santiago North Regional Football Association (ARFSN) and serves as its headquarters of the North Zone. The stadium is home to Assomada's best clubs including Desportivo de Assomada, the top five of the North Zone and Juventude Assomada, clubs based in Assomada's neighborhoods includes Associação Nhágar e Boa Entrada, Esperança FC, Grémio Nhágar and Inter Cutelo Salinas, clubs based in the municipality is Portas Abertas, clubs based outside Santa Catarina is União Picos from São Salvador do Mundo. A former club played at the stadium included Os Amigos and Juventude de Assomada. All clubs participate in the Santiago Island League North Zone

Estádio da Várzea stadium

Estádio da Várzea is a multi-purpose stadium in Praia, Cape Verde just west of the city center's plateau in the subdivision of Várzea and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa on its east side. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium is owned by the city of Praia and is operated by the Santiago South Regional Football Association and serves its headquarters of the association. The other stadium operated by the association in the south of the island is Calabaceira. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium where most of the seat is. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides, 200 meters east is the Plateau of Praia. Its size is 108 by 69 m, the longest part of the field goes north to south with a 15 degree angle facing east at the top. Its elevation is about 4 meters above sea level. A smaller practice field lies due south. The stadium is home to the four best football clubs in Cape Verde, Sporting, CD Travadores, Académica and Boavista FC the Santiago Island first division alongside Vitória FC, one of the region's best, it also home of Desportivo da Praia which is a military club and the lesser club Benfica Praia. Other teams that base in another part include ADESBA located in the nearby neighborhood of Craveiro Lopes some hundreds of meters north but play in the stadium.

Associação Desportiva do Bairro Craveiro Lopes is a multisport club that had played in the Santiago Island South Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 8,000 The club never won a championship title, they have two cup titles. Its sports include football (soccer), basketball, futsal, similar to arena football and volleyball. Its current president Carlos Sena Teixeira and its manager is Daniel Cardoso who came in February 2017. Its nickname is canarinha which is Portuguese for the little canary.

In the 2017 regional cup, the club advanced into the semis and defeated Celtic Praia 4-0 on 13 April and the club advanced into the finals and made a goal draw with Sporting Praia on May 7 which led into the penalty shootout and lost to Sporting. Garridos made their best position as a finalist. As Sporting was also champions on April 9, Garridos had unlocked its entry into the 2017 regional super cup for the first and only time, their qualification status was as runner-up in the cup final, Garridos was underestimated as the club lost the match to Sporting Praia on October 28.

In the following season, a possibility that the club will not be playing at Várzea, they may play at Calabaceira or at Ponta d'Água being closer to São Domingos. Os Garridos once again started playing in the Second Division in a few seasons and started moderately, a loss to Unidos do Norte before a win over Calabaceira Fiorentina was made. Os Garridos recently made a three match winning streak, inbetween was an 0-1 win over Unidos do Norte and prevented that club from qualification and Garridos may get a chance to return into the Premier Division in the following season. Os Garridos was second behind the newcomer Relâmpago (the lightning) with 19 points. s Garridos slipped a bit after a loss to Unidos do Norte on January 21. Os Garridos later went on a few victories and a draw before losing to Delta on February 24. Garridos had a bye week and after 14 matches played, their positions slipped below their planned qualification level. Os Garridos lost to first placed Relâmpago and still had a 50/50 chance of returning next season. Their last match was a 2-1 victory over Kumunidadi and finished with 29 points, behind Unidos do Norte, Os Garridos finished third failing to return to the Premier Division in its entirety. Alongside Vitória, Garridos will be spending another season in the Second Division.

Garridos has a small field in the area of São Domingos, they also play in the area of Calabaceira. Garridos's matches are played at Estádio da Várzea, a multi-use stadium in Praia, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000. Its address is Caixa Postal 234. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides and a small hill and a plateau lies to the west. The stadium is home to the three best football clubs in Cape Verde and the island's six best, Sporting. CD Travadores, Boavista FC, Académica, Desportivo and Vitória, all in the Santiago South Championships.

Praia City in Santiago

Praia, is the capital and largest city of Cape Verde, an island nation in the Atlantic Ocean west of Senegal. It lies on the southern coast of Santiago island in the Sotavento Islands group. It is the island's ferry port and is home to one of the nation's four international airports. The city centre is known as Plateau due to its location on a small plateau.

CD Travadores association football club

Clube Desportivo Travadores is a football club in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde and are one of the unrelegated clubs of the Premier Division. It is based in the capital city of Praia, on the island of Santiago, and plays in a stadium with a capacity of 8,000. It is affiliated with S.L. Benfica and was the first Benfica affiliate in Cape Verde and the western part of West Africa. Its nicknames are indios and águias

Garridos did not used it between 1999 and 2010 when they were with the North Zone of Santiago.

The club also practices at the stadium, at Complexo Desportivo Adega in Achada Grande Tras and in São Domingos including the one near São Domingos and another at Ribeira da Praia Formosa around Milho Branco. In the following season, Garridos will play at Calabaceira and probably also play at Ponta d'Àgua so Garridos can be closer to São Domingos which the club is based. The field at nearby Nora located near São Domingos has been recently added artificial turf and will possibly add stadium seats. That portion is now the development of becoming the home field of Garridos.
