Hanch is a hamlet [1] in the Lichfield District in Staffordshire, England. It is located close to the city of Lichfield. The hamlet is in Longdon parish and is best known for "Hanch Hall".
The land around Hanch was owned by the Bishop of Lichfield and was nothing more than heathland for grazing and agriculture. There is a local landmark locally named the "Hanging Tree" and is a local point of interest. [2]
Hanch Hall was built in the 16th Century and was owned by Thomas Orme and his family. [3] The hall played a pivotal role in most of Staffordshire's government, military and judiciary systems. With some instances include working with the Staffordshire assessment commission, militia and justice of peace at times. [4]
Additional seats within the parish included Lyswayes Hall and Chestall.
Following Ormes death, the hall was later repurposed for private use and was given Grade II* listed status by Historic England in February 1964. [5] The hall is now a farm and in use as a private residence.
Hanch is home to both the Lichfield Golf and Country Club [6] , and the Strike Shack Golf. [7] The nearest shopping centres are located in nearby Lichfield.
