Hempfield is an unincorporated community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. Hempfield is a tiny locale in West Hempfield Township, a few miles west of Lancaster, the county seat.
Hempfield Township was one of the original townships set off when the boundaries of Lancaster County were surveyed in 1729. At that time, it included the present areas of East Hempfield Township, West Hempfield Township, Manor Township, and the Boroughs of Columbia, Mountville, and East Petersburg.
Hempfield is said to be so named on account of the hemp fields formerly located in the area. [1]

Salunga is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in West Hempfield and East Hempfield townships in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,695. The community was once part of the Salunga-Landisville CDP, before splitting into two separate CDPs for the 2010 census, the other being Landisville.
Hempfield Area School District is a large school district in western Pennsylvania. It is the largest in Westmoreland County with a resident population of over 50,000 and covers approximately 95 square miles (250 km2) and lies 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Pittsburgh. The school district was formed in a merger of The School District of Hempfield Township, Adamsburg School District, Hunker School District, Manor School District and Youngwood School District on July 3, 1961. The school district population comes from Hempfield Township and the boroughs of Adamsburg, Hunker, Manor, New Stanton, and Youngwood. It completely surrounds the city of Greensburg. The community is a mix of Pittsburgh suburbia and rural areas.
The school system includes five elementary buildings, three middle schools, a high school, an alternative education school and an after-school alternative education program. The Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center serves Hempfield students in the high school. Hempfield Area School District is made up of approximately 6,600 students in grades K-12, is served by a professional staff of 445, and an administrative staff of 20.

Pennsylvania Route 462 is a 32-mile-long (51 km) east–west state route in York and Lancaster counties in central Pennsylvania. The western terminus is west of York, and the eastern terminus is east of Lancaster. At both ends, PA 462 terminates at U.S. Route 30, which follows a mostly freeway alignment parallel to the north between York and Lancaster. The route heads east into York, where it follows the one-way pair of Market Street eastbound and Philadelphia Street westbound. In York, PA 462 runs concurrent with PA 74 and crosses Interstate 83 Business. East of York, the route becomes a multilane road that has an interchange with I-83 and crosses PA 24. PA 462 continues east through Hallam to Wrightsville and passes through that town before it crosses the Susquehanna River and runs through Columbia. East of here, the route continues through Mountville before reaching the city of Lancaster. In Lancaster, PA 462 is routed on the one-way pair of King Street eastbound and Walnut Street westbound, with the westbound direction concurrent with PA 23. The route crosses US 222/PA 272 and northbound PA 72 in Lancaster. East of Lancaster, PA 462 becomes a multilane road again and continues to its eastern terminus.
Pennsylvania Route 722 is an 8.8-mile-long (14.2 km), east–west state highway located in central Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The western terminus is at an interchange with PA 283 in East Hempfield Township, where State Road continues westward toward Harrisburg Pike turning into Centerville Road upon crossing. The eastern terminus is at PA 272 in Oregon. PA 722 is a two-lane undivided road that passes through suburban areas to the north of Lancaster. The route intersects PA 72 in East Petersburg and forms a concurrency with PA 501 in Neffsville.
Pennsylvania Route 741 is a 26.3-mile-long (42.3 km) state highway that runs through western and southern Lancaster County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The western terminus is along Rohrerstown Road north of an intersection with Commercial Avenue near East Petersburg. The eastern terminus is at PA 41 in Gap. PA 741 heads south from East Petersburg and runs through the western suburbs of Lancaster. The route turns southeast and passes through Millersville before it turns east at New Danville. PA 741 forms a concurrency with U.S. Route 222 between Willow Street and Lampeter before it continues east through farmland in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country that is home to several Amish families, passing through Strasburg before reaching Gap.

Chickies Historic District is a national historic district located at East Donegal Township, West Hempfield Township, and Marietta, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The district includes 32 contributing buildings, 16 contributing sites, and four contributing structures in three areas. They are: 1) floodplain along the Susquehanna River containing archaeological remains of iron furnaces; 2) the "Ironmasters' Hill" area of Marietta with five residences associated with ironmasters ; and 3) the Donegal Creek area with farmland, iron pits, and limestone quarries owned by the ironmasters.
