Wakefield is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) within Fulton Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 609. [2] It is the largest community within the "Peach Bottom" ZIP code, with the area post office on Pennsylvania Route 272, just north of town.
Wakefield is in southern Lancaster County, in the north-central part of Fulton Township. The Wakefield CDP includes Wakefield proper as well as the community of Penn Hill to the north, at the northern junction of PA 272 and U.S. Route 222. Both highways lead north to Lancaster, the county seat. PA 272's route is more direct, leading north-northwest through Buck 20 miles (32 km) to Lancaster, while US 222 curves north-northeast through Quarryville and rejoins PA 272 at Willow Street for a 24-mile (39 km) route to the city. To the south from Wakefield, US 222 leads 7.5 miles (12.1 km) to U.S. Route 1 in Maryland, just north of Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River, while PA 272 leads east from Wakefield 9 miles (14 km) to US 1 in Nottingham.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Wakefield CDP has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2), of which 0.01 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.45%, are water. [1] The community sits on a ridge, with the west side draining to Puddle Duck Creek, which leads to Peters Creek and the Susquehanna River, and the east side draining to Conowingo Creek, which joins the Susquehanna in Maryland.
Willow Street is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,578 at the 2010 census. In the early part of the 20th century, the main thoroughfare in town was lined with willow trees on both sides for the length of the town, hence the community's name. As time passed and the town grew, the road was widened and sidewalks were installed, which required the trees be removed. Only a few of the original trees remain to this day.

It runs for 95 miles (153 km) from US 1 in Conowingo, Maryland, north to Interstate 78 (I-78)/Pennsylvania Route 309 in Dorneyville, Pennsylvania. US 222 is almost entirely in Pennsylvania, and serves as the state's principal artery between the Lancaster and Reading areas and the Lehigh Valley.
Octoraro Creek is a 22.1-mile-long (35.6 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River, joining it 9 miles (14 km) above the Susquehanna's mouth at Chesapeake Bay. The Octoraro rises as an East and West Branch in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Route 272 is a 54.7-mile-long (88.0 km) highway in southeastern Pennsylvania, in the Lancaster area. The southern terminus of the route is at the Mason–Dixon line southeast of Nottingham, where the road continues into Maryland as Maryland Route 272. The northern terminus is at an interchange with U.S. Route 222 and PA 568 near Adamstown, where PA 568 continues east. The route heads from the Maryland border northwest through the western corner of Chester County, intersecting US 1 in Nottingham. PA 272 continues west into Lancaster County and intersects US 222 in Wakefield, where it turns north and passes through Buck before widening into a divided highway as it comes to another junction with US 222 in Willow Street. Here, the route becomes unsigned and follows US 222 north through Lancaster along a one-way pair of city streets. North of Lancaster, US 222 splits at an interchange with US 30 and PA 272 becomes signed again, heading northeast parallel to the freeway alignment of US 222 and passing through Akron, Ephrata, and Adamstown. The route enters Berks County and comes to its northern terminus.
