Huaquechula Municipality is a municipality in Puebla in south-eastern Mexico. [1]
The town of Huaquechula is the local governmental authority for thirty communities, which together cover an area of 223.25 km2. The municipal government consists of a municipal president, one syndic, and eight representatives for the various communities. This municipality of the same name borders the municipalities of Atzitzihuacán, Atlixco, Tlapanala, Tepeojuma and Tepemaxalco. (encmuc) The largest of the communities outside of the seat are Santa Ana Coatepec, El Tronconal, Teocalco de Dorantes, Tezonteopan de Bonilla, San Juan Huiluco, Cacaloxuchil, Soledad Morelos, San Antonio Cuautla, Santiago Tetla and San Diego Organal. The municipality is located mostly in the Atlixco Valley, with a small portion in the Matamoros Valley, wedged between the Sierra Mixteca and the Popocatépetl volcano. [2] [3] It has altitudes ranging from 1700 meters above sea level to 1500 from north to south. The highest elevation inside the municipality is the Cerro el Metate. [2]
Its rivers run north to south descending from Popocatepetl, including the Río Grande, the Ahuehuello, the Matadero, the Atila and the Nexapa. There is also a system of canals connected to these natural waterways especially in the northeast. [2]
The municipality has three main climate zones. The first is semi hot and semi humid with rains in the summer. This extends over most of the territory, except the northeast and the southwest. The southeast has a hot and semi moist climate with rains in the summer. The rainy season extends from June to November with a short dry spell in the middle. Freezing temperatures can occur from ten to thirty days per year. [2]
Wild vegetation in the municipality varies from low deciduous rainforest, areas of secondary vegetation, dry scrub, grassland and areas dominated by palm trees. Dominant wildlife includes the squirrel, skunk and deer. [2]

Atlixco is a city in the Mexican state of Puebla. It is a regional industrial and commercial center but economically it is much better known for its production of ornamental plants and cut flowers. The city was founded early in the colonial period, originally under the jurisdiction of Huejotzingo, but eventually separated to become an independent municipality. The municipality has a number of notable cultural events, the most important of which is the El Huey Atlixcayotl, a modern adaptation of an old indigenous celebration. This event brings anywhere from 800 to 1,500 participants from all over the state of Puebla to create music, dance, and other cultural and artistic performances. Atlixco joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2018.
Huauchinango is a city in the far north of the state of Puebla in central Mexico. It is located in the rugged Sierra Norte de Puebla mountain region, filled with peaks, ravines and rivers that form waterfalls. The city is home to a locally venerated image called the Señor del Santo Entierro and also to the area's main commercial fair, the Feria de las Flores, which promotes the area's flower production, especially that of azaleas. It serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name.
Huaquechula is a town in Huaquechula Municipality located in state of Puebla in central Mexico. The settlement dates back at least as far as 1110 CE although its center has moved to twice to its current location. Since its founding, it has been an agricultural community, today raising crops such as peanuts, corn and sorghum, although there are some handcrafts as well. The town is known for its traditions related to the Feast of the Cross, but even more so for its “cabo del año” altars on Day of the Dead, which are dedicated to family members who have died during the previous year. These have been declared a cultural heritage of the state of Puebla and bring tourists to the town, mostly from Puebla.

Huejotzingo is a small city and municipality located just northwest of the city of Puebla, in central Mexico. The settlement's history dates back to the pre-Hispanic period, when it was a dominion, with its capital a short distance from where the modern settlement is today. Modern Huejotzingo is located where a Franciscan monastery was founded in 1525, and in 1529, the monks moved the indigenous population of Huejotzingo to live around the monastery. Today, Huejotzingo is known for the production of alcoholic apple cider and fruit preserves, as well as its annual carnival. This carnival is distinct as it centers on the re-enactment of several historical and legendary events related to the area. The largest of these is related to the Battle of Puebla, with about 2, 000 residents representing French and Mexican forces that engage in mock battles over four days.

Los Volcanes Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve located within the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt of south-central Mexico. The 171,774.4 hectares (663.225 sq mi) reserve surrounds the volcanoes of Popocatépetl and Ixtaccíhuatl and marks the biogeographical boundary between the Nearctic and Neotropical realms. The reserve is managed by Iztaccíhuatl Popocatépetl Zoquiapan National Park.
