Development

Sony Music announced in September 2021 that a Celine Dion feature-length documentary film is already in the works. [1] The official title of the film, I Am: Celine Dion, was announced in January 2024 with Amazon MGM Studios acquiring the distribution rights. [2] The film was directed by Emmy-winning and Academy Award-nominated director Irene Taylor and centers around Dion. [3] It details her life, career accomplishments and battle with stiff-person syndrome. I Am: Celine Dion became available for streaming starting 25 June 2024, on Amazon Prime Video. [4]

Songs

The soundtrack features 20 songs: 13 of Dion's essential hits and seven original score tracks mainly composed by Albanian cellist and composer Redi Hasa and produced by Italian bassist and producer Alberto Fabris. "The Diagnosis" score was composed by pianist Ekland Hasa. The English-language hits include: "My Heart Will Go On", "Because You Loved Me", "The Power of Love", "All by Myself", "I'm Alive", "A New Day Has Come" and "River Deep, Mountain High". "Ashes" from Deadpool 2 soundtrack (2018) and "Love Again" from Love Again soundtrack (2023) are also featured. The French-language hits include: "Pour que tu m'aimes encore", "Zora sourit", "J'irai où tu iras" and "Je crois toi".

Release

I Am: Celine Dion was released by Columbia Records on 21 June 2024 for digital download and streaming, and on CD. [5] It will also be issued on vinyl on 9 August 2024. [5] In Francophone countries, the album was titled Je suis: Céline Dion. [5]

Critical reception

According to Entertainment Focus, the score tracks are pleasant enough creating emotive moods and provided thoughtful breaks. [6] When it comes to the hits, the soundtrack perfectly highlights the unmatched vocal prowess that Dion possesses and it is a timely reminder of the power of Dion as a vocalist and an artist. [6] Entertainment Focus also wrote that the most poignant moment though comes on "I'm Alive", a song that's already enoying a resurgence thanks to a dance remix by Majestic and the Jammin Kid (retitled "Set My Heart on Fire"). [6] Entertainment Focus concluded that, knowing the struggle Dion has been going through, "I'm Alive" has a new emotional layer that it didn't have when it was first released and it now feels like an anthem for overcoming adversity and fighting for your life". [6]
