Jan Frederik Schaap was a Scoutmaster in The Hague and a front man in the first decades of Scouting in The Netherlands. [1]
Schaap's contributions to Scouting include the Dutch translation of Scouting for Boys (1924 and several later editions), and other Scouting books. In The Hague, he led the '2nd The Hague Troup' (Dutch : 2e 's-Gravenhaagsche troep), together with Philip baron van Pallandt (who later inherited his uncle's estates Het Laar en Eerde in Ommen). The estate Het Laar contained the site for Gilwell Ada's Hoeve. In July 1923, Schaap organized the first Dutch Wood Badge Scout leadership training on Scout centre Gilwell Ada's Hoeve in Ommen. As the editor of the monthly magazine De Padvinder (1914 onward), he wrote the campsong of the 5th World Scout Jamboree in Vogelenzang.(lyrics: Dutch : In 19-3-7 zul je wat beleven, dan komt de jamboree naar Nederland). Ommen is a municipality and a Hanseatic city in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in the Vecht valley of the Salland region in Overijssel. Historical records first name Ommen in the early 12th century and it was officially founded as a city in 1248. Sint-Michielsgestel is a municipality and a town in the southern part of the Netherlands. It is located directly south of 's-Hertogenbosch, the capital of North Brabant province. Its name refers to archangel St. Michael.
Wood Badge is a Scouting leadership programme and the related award for adult leaders in the programmes of Scout associations throughout the world. Wood Badge courses aim to make Scouters better leaders by teaching advanced leadership skills, and by creating a bond and commitment to the Scout movement. Courses generally have a combined classroom and practical outdoors-based phase followed by a Wood Badge ticket, also known as the project phase. By "working the ticket", participants put their newly gained experience into practice to attain ticket goals aiding the Scouting movement. The first Wood Badge training was organized by Francis "Skipper" Gidney and lectured at by Robert Baden-Powell and others at Gilwell Park in September 1919. Wood Badge training has since spread across the world with international variations.
Gilwell Park is a camp site and activity centre for Scouting and Guiding groups, as well as schools and other youth organisations. The site also houses a training and conference centre, including the hosting of social events such as weddings and birthday parties. The 44 hectare (109 acre) site is in Sewardstonebury, Epping Forest, close to Chingford, London.
Scouting Nederland is the national Scout organisation of the Netherlands with approximately 110,000 members (53,324 male and 54,663 female, 87,000 youth members, as of 2010.
The World Scout Indaba was a gathering of Scout Leaders from around the world. Created at the 1949 12th World Scout Conference in Elvesæter, Norway where The Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom submitted that of the great number of Scouters working in a Pack, Troop or Crew, only a very small percentage were ever able to take part in a major international Scout gathering. The suggestion for the title came from Lord Rowallan after one of his African tours, the term indaba being a Zulu language word meaning "tribal conference".
The 21st World Scout Jamboree was held in July and August 2007, and formed a part of the Scouting 2007 Centenary celebrations of the world Scout Movement. The event was hosted by the United Kingdom, as 2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Scouting on Brownsea Island.
The Studentenstam De Delftsche Zwervers is a student society in Delft, Netherlands. Dating from 1915, it is the world's oldest student Scouting group, first as a club for former Scouts, from 1920 as a Rover crew. They are housed in the Scout Centre "Kruithuis", the monumental gunpowder ammunition dump of the Dutch Republic, designed in 1660 by Pieter Post. The members are students at the Delft University of Technology and other higher education institutions.
The 3rd World Scout Jamboree was held in 1929 at Arrowe Park in Upton, near Birkenhead, Wirral, United Kingdom. As it was commemorating the 21st birthday of Scouting for Boys and the Scouting movement, it is also known as the Coming of Age Jamboree. With about 30,000 Scouts and over 300,000 visitors attending, this jamboree was the largest jamboree so far.
The 5th World Scout Jamboree was the World Scout Jamboree where 81-year-old Robert Baden-Powell gave his farewell.
Betty St Clair Clay was the younger daughter of Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting and Olave Baden-Powell. She was the sister of Peter Baden-Powell; the aunt of Robert Baden-Powell, 3rd Baron Baden-Powell, and Michael Baden-Powell, 4th Baron Baden-Powell; the niece of Agnes Baden-Powell, Baden Baden-Powell; niece and goddaughter of Warington Baden-Powell; and granddaughter of the Rev. Prof. Baden Powell.
Gilwell Ada's Hoeve is one of the oldest Dutch national Scouting campsites, and from July 1923 until the 1960s hosted the Wood Badge trainings for Scouting leadership in the Netherlands. The site was founded as a Scouting campsite in 1923 by Philip baron van Pallandt on his Eerde Estate in Ommen. One of the largest Dutch sites of Scouting Nederland, it covers 45 hectares, and has 25 camping fields and other accommodation, hosting approximately 10,000 camping nights annually.
Philip Dirk baron van Pallandt, heer van Eerde was a Scoutmaster in the early years of Dutch scouting. He was the owner of Gilwell Ada's Hoeve on his Eerde Estate, which he gave to Scouting in 1923.
Jean Jacques Rambonnet was a Dutch naval officer, politician and the only Chief Scout of the Netherlands.
B-P's footprint is a casting, usually in bronze or brass, of the right foot of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout and Guide Movements, who is known as "B-P." The idea is that people may put their foot into this casting, so that they can say that they have "walked in the footsteps of B-P."
Percy Bantock Nevill, OBE, FCA, commonly known P. B. Nevill, was a chartered accountant, became Scoutmaster of the 5th Enfield Boy Scout troop in late 1909, after the beginning of Scouting and held many positions within The Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom including as Headquarters Commissioners and as Vice-President of the Association. He contributed to Scouting in major projects, such as the founding of Gilwell Park and Roland House and donated Kingsdown Scout Camp to The Boy Scouts Association. He contributed to Scouting publications and wrote two books on Scouting.

The Nienke van Hichtum-prijs is a biennial Dutch literary award for children's literature awarded by the Jan Campert-Stichting. The award is named after children's author Nienke van Hichtum and was first awarded in 1964. The winner of the prize receives €6,000.
Sybe Schaap is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. He has been Senator since 12 July 2007 till 11 July 2019, doing water, agriculture, foreign affairs and European Union affairs. For example, he arranged a majority in favor of the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement in the Dutch parliament.
