The Filmfare Best Director Award is one of the main awards presented given by the annual Filmfare Awards to recognise directors working in Hindi cinema. It was first presented in 1954 in the inaugural year.
Kulbhushan Kharbanda is an Indian actor who works in Hindi and Punjabi films. He is best known for his role as the antagonist Shakaal in Shaan (1980), Starting off with the Delhi-based theatre group 'Yatrik' in the 1960s, he moved to films with Sai Paranjpye's Jadu Ka Shankh in 1974. He worked in several parallel cinema films before working in the mainstream Hindi film industry. He appeared in Mahesh Bhatt's classic Arth (1982), Ek Chadar Maili Si (1986), Waaris (1988), and in all three parts of Deepa Mehta's Elements trilogy: Fire (1996), Earth (1998), and Water (2005). After nearly two decades he was seen on the theatre stage at the Padatik Theatre in Kolkata in the production of Atmakatha, directed by Vinay Sharma.
Emraan Anwar Hashmi is an Indian actor who works in Hindi cinema. Born into the Bhatt family, he began his career an assistant director on the horror film Raaz (2002). He made his acting debut with the crime film Footpath (2003), and achieved his breakthrough for his starring role in the erotic thriller Murder (2004).

Farooq Shaikh was an Indian actor, philanthropist and television presenter. He was best known for his work in Hindi films from 1973 to 1993 and for his work in television between 1988 and 2002. He returned to acting in films in 2008 and continued to do so until his death on 28 December 2013. His major contribution was in Parallel Cinema or the New Indian Cinema. He worked with directors like Satyajit Ray, Sai Paranjpye, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee,Ayan Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta.
Chashme Buddoor is a 1981 Indian romantic comedy-buddy film directed by Sai Paranjape and produced by Gul Anand and his sister Jayshree Anand–Makhija. The film stars Farooq Sheikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Leela Mishra in lead roles. The story revolves around three close friends who fall in love with a girl named Neha. Two of the friends fail to woo her and decide to seek revenge after discovering that their third roommate is dating the girl. A remake version directed by David Dhawan and the original digitally restored film were both released on 5 April 2013. The lyrics written by Indu Jain were composed by Raj Kamal and sung by Yesudas and Hemanti Shukla.
Sparsh (transl. Touch) is a 1980 Indian Hindi feature film directed by Sai Paranjpye. It stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi playing the characters of a visually impaired principal and a sighted teacher in a school for the blind, where they fall in love though soon their complexes tag along and they struggle to get past them to reconnect with the "touch" of love. The film remains most memorable for the subtle acting of its leads, plus the handling of the issue of relationships with the visually disabled, revealing the emotional and perception divide between the worlds of the "blind" and the "sighted", epitomized by the characters. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. However, the film's release was delayed by almost 4 years.

Madhu Malti is a coming-of-age 1978 Hindi film directed by Basu Bhattacharya. Produced by Chitra Katha, the film stars Sachin and Sarika in the title roles. This was Gulshan Grover's film debut. The film tells the love story of Madhu and Malti, two college students. The film was released on 25 August 1978 and was certified U by the Central Board of Film Certification.
