Khokhra is an area located in Ahmedabad, India.

Khokhra had many textile mills such as Asoka Cotsyn and Arvind Limited. While most of the mills have shut down long back, couple of them still operate from Khokara. Khokhra has recently turned to be a much better locality as the closed mill compounds have been converted to educational and residential hubs. Khokhra now has a dental college, Engineering college, Commerce and arts college. Recently,[ when? ] many eateries have opened in the area.

The origin of the name "Khokhra par" goes back to the days when Mohajirs (immigrants) from partition time came to this place, most of them crossed the border of India to newly founded country of Pakistan from Khokhra Par, Sindh and found this area significantly resembling with original Khokhra Par because of its dry and desert-like surroundings were quite similar in nature to what they earlier came across during their exodus, therefore they ended up naming it the same, latter it was attempted to officially renamed as "Azam Colony" in honor of then Governor of West Pakistan Lieutenant General Muhammad Azam Khan (1908–1994) by the Government but the earlier name "Khokhra Par" remained more prominent and popular.

Khokhra River is a river in western India in Gujarat whose origin is Near Jaru. Its basin has a maximum length of 40 km. The total catchment area of the basin is 93 km2.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fonteyn Kill</span> Urban stream in New York, US

The Fonteyn Kill is a 1.5-kilometer-long (0.93 mi) urban stream flowing through Dutchess County, New York, onto the campus of Vassar College, and into the Casperkill. The stream was first on land inhabited by the native Wappinger band before being transferred to the Dutch and then the British. A mill was built along the kill by 1714 and the stream's presence influenced Matthew Vassar's decision to locate his college in the area. The artificial Vassar Lake lies midway down the Fonteyn Kill and was once used for ice skating and boating.
