Vastrapur Lake, officially Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta Lake, is situated in western part of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is officially named after Narsinh Mehta.
The lake was beautified by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) after 2002 and has since become a popular spot in the city.
At times, the water from Narmada River is allowed to flow into this lake. The lake is surrounded by pretty gardens with much stonework. [1]
In 2013, Vastrapur lake was renamed to 'Bhakt Kavi Narsinh Mehta Sarovar' in memory of Narsinh Mehta and a statue of Narsinh Mehta was installed in the garden of lake. [2]
In 2016, the lake almost dried up. People removed dead fish, and moved surviving fish elsewhere. [3]
In September 2019, AMC planned to fill the lake with Narmada River water. [4]
Many people visit this lake. It currently boasts an open-air theater and children's park. There is a 600 m pathway around the lake which serves many walkers and joggers in the early mornings and in the evenings. Fitness equipment is also available.
The lush green lawns surrounding this lake also serve as a central hub of Ahmedabad, wherein various cultural events take place regularly.

Kankaria Lake is the second largest lake in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the Maninagar area. It was completed in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II though its origin is placed in the Chaulukya period sometimes. Narsinh Mehta, also known as Narsinh Bhagat, was a 15th-century poet-saint of Gujarat, India, honored as the first poet, or Adi Kavi, of the Gujarati language. Narsinh Mehta is member of Nagar Brahman community. Narsinh became a devotee of Krishna, and dedicated his life to composing poetic works described as bhakti, or devotion towards Krishna. His bhajans have remained popular in Gujarat and Rajasthan for over 5 centuries. Most notably, his composition Vaishnav Jan To was Mahatma Gandhi's favorite and became popular with freedom fighters across India.
Originating from Pavagadh in the Panchmahal District of Gujarat, the Vishwamitri River flows mainly through the west of the city of Vadodara. The name of this river is said to have been derived from the name of the great saint Vishwamitra. Two other tributaries namely Dhadhar and Khanpur merge into it before it amalgamates with the Gulf of Khambhat. Human settlement dating back to 1000 B.C has been found on the bank of river Vishwamitri which ascertains the existence of Stone Age Era.
