Nagalpur Lake is located in Nagalpur neighbourhood of Mehsana city in Gujarat state of India. There is a proposal for its development as a public space.

History

Under the project by Gujarat Uraban Development Corporation, the treated sewage water was to be drained in the lake. But the sewage water was drained untreated in the lake. [2]

In January 2019, the Mehsana Municipality appointed a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the development of the lake. The DPR was submitted and it proposed the cost of 11.99 crore (US$1.5 million) for the project. [3] The municipality allotted 1 crore (US$130,000) and 3 crore (US$380,000) respectively for the development of lake in 2019-20 and 2020-21 budgets respectively. [4] The Government of Gujarat approved 11.5 crore (US$1.4 million) for the development of lake in 2022 under Amrit Lake scheme. [1]

Proposal

The preliminary development proposal includes a cordon wall, a garden and a children's park along with a storm water drainage system for the lake. [3] As of July 2023, the development work is not started.2022. [1] [5]

The Kalpasar Project or the Gulf of Khambhat Development Project envisages building a 30 km dam across the Gulf of Khambat in India for establishing a huge fresh water coastal reservoir for irrigation, drinking and industrial purposes. The project with 30 km sea dam will have the capacity to store 10,000 million cubic meters fresh water, equating to 25% of Gujarat’s average annual rainwater flow, from the rivers like Narmada, Mahi, Dhadhar, Sabarmati, Limbdi-Bhagovo, and two other minor rivers. A 10 lane road link will also be set up over the dam, greatly reducing the distance between Saurashtra and South Gujarat. The project, which will create world's largest freshwater lake in marine environment, will cost INR90,000 crore or US$12.75 billion excluding the cost of tidal power plant. Project entails construction of the main "Kalpasar dam" across Gulf of Khambat and another Bhadbhut barrage on Narmada river, as well as a canal connecting the two.
