Lewis Ankeny McArthur, known as "Tam" McArthur, was an executive for Pacific Power and Light Company. He was also the secretary for the Oregon Geographic Board for many years and the author of Oregon Geographic Names. His book, now in its seventh edition, is a comprehensive source of information on the origins and history of Oregon place names. It is a standard reference book in libraries throughout Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Tam McArthur Rim in the Cascade Mountains is named in his honor.

Dixie is an unincorporated historic community in Washington County, Oregon, United States. Dixie post office was established five or six miles southwest of Scappoose in 1887, with John Dix as the first postmaster. The office was named for the Dix family and not for the U.S. South. The office closed in 1924, but when real estate was being sold in the area in 1933, a name for the locality was needed for marketing reasons. When a vote was held at a community picnic circa 1936 or 1937, 80 of the attendees chose the name "Dixie" to commemorate the former post office and its postmaster.
Divide is a ghost town in Lane County, Oregon, United States, located southwest of Cottage Grove, near Interstate 5. A post office in Douglas County near a train station on the Southern Pacific Railroad was established on May 31, 1900, and it was closed on January 15, 1921. In 1909, the post office was relisted as a Lane County post office. It may have been moved across county borders, or its county may have changed during a shift in the border between Lane and Douglas counties.
