Lindsey Patrice Horvath (born June 30,1982) is an American politician,advertising executive,and activist. She is currently serving as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the 3rd District,which covers the San Fernando Valley,and served as Chair of Los Angeles County in 2024. [1] She was previously a Councilmember for West Hollywood,California and was twice its mayor. [2]
Horvath was born in 1982 in Painesville,Ohio,growing up in Wickliffe,Ohio and Las Vegas,Nevada before going to the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. [3] She has one younger brother but comes from a large family,with her parents being the youngest of multi-sibling households. [3] She attended Catholic schools in Ohio and private high school in Las Vegas. [3] As a teenager,Gloria Allred and Hillary Clinton were some of her role models. [3] While at Notre Dame,Horvath was a registered Republican,but switched her party affiliation to Democratic in 2003. [4] She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2004 cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and gender studies. [5] [6] At Notre Dame,she participated in a performance of The Vagina Monologues which caused controversy with the administration,and also was vice president of the College Republicans. [3]
She moved to Los Angeles,California after graduating from college intending to go into law school,and attended musical theater school instead. After working in advertising,she founded the Hollywood chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). In 2007,she was appointed to the Women's Advisory Board for West Hollywood,and was elected chair after eight months. [3]
In 2009,Horvath was appointed to the West Hollywood City Council after the death of Councilman Sal Guarriello,which upset some residents as Horvath had only lived in the city for two years. [4] In 2011,she lost her first election to John D’Amico. [7] [8] On March 3,2015,she was elected back onto the City Council,defeating John Heilman. [9] After her swearing in,councilmember John Duran filed a motion to make Horvath the mayor for the coming year,which was approved by the Council unanimously. [10] [11] As a councilmember and mayor,she helped approve the minimum wage of $17.64 per hour and helped with the downsizing of the number of sheriffs in the city. [12] [13]
On April 20,2020,the City Council chose Horvath as mayor for a second time,with John Heilman as the Mayor Pro Tempore. [14] She was sworn in for a second time on May 18,2020. [15] Her second term expired on September 20,2021,to which her Mayor Pro Tempore,Lauren Meister,became mayor for a second time. [16] [17]
In 2021,Horvath announced that she was running to replace Sheila Kuehl on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors after Kuehl said she would retire. [18] [19] She was challenged by State Senators Robert Hertzberg and Henry Stern,with Stern being eliminated in the primary election after placing third. [20] During her campaign,she received criticism for removing parts of her biography pertaining to West Hollywood. [12] In the general election,Horvath upset Hertzberg with 52.97% of the vote. [21]
Shortly after assuming office,Horvath authored a proclamation of local emergency for homelessness in Los Angeles County. [22] [23]

Salvatore Joseph Guarriello was a member of the City Council of the City of West Hollywood,California. He was elected to the City Council in 1990,and reelected four times. He served four one-year terms as mayor. He was an advocate for West Hollywood residents,protected tenants of low-income housing,promoted West Hollywood's businesses,and upheld public safety.
David Eun Seok Ryu is an American politician,who served as the Los Angeles City Councilman for District 4 from 2015 to 2020. He is the first Korean-American to hold a council seat in Los Angeles,California,and the first Asian-American to serve on Los Angeles City Council Leadership. Ryu was defeated by Nithya Raman in the November 3rd,2020 general election.
Kathryn Ann Barger-Leibrich is an American politician,serving as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the 5th District since 2016 and is the Chair of Los Angeles County. A member of the Republican Party,Barger served as Chair of Los Angeles County from 2019 to 2020 and 2024-Present. She previously served as Chief Deputy Supervisor and Chief of Staff to her predecessor Mayor Michael D. Antonovich.
Edward Bernard Peter Buck is an American convicted felon,Democratic Party donor,former founder of the Mecham Recall Committee,and businessman. He also was a former model and actor and he made a significant amount of money running and selling the data service company Gopher Courier. He became involved in politics after the election of Evan Mecham as Governor of Arizona in 1986;Buck,an Arizona resident,led the effort to recall him from the governorship of Arizona,accusing him of racism and corruption. The experience led Buck to change his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat,and he has since donated heavily to Democratic politicians. In 2007,he ran an unsuccessful campaign for the city council of West Hollywood,California.
The K Line Northern Extension,formerly known as the Crenshaw Northern Extension,is a project planning a Los Angeles Metro Rail light rail transit corridor extension connecting Expo/Crenshaw station to Hollywood/Highland station in Hollywood. The corridor is a fully underground,north-south route along mostly densely populated areas on the western side of the Los Angeles Basin;it would be operated as part of the K Line. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is prioritizing the project along with pressure from the West Hollywood residents. Construction is slated to start in 2041 and begin service by 2047 unless means to accelerate the project are found.
The 2022 Los Angeles mayoral election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the mayor of Los Angeles,California. A top-two primary was held on June 7,2022. Candidates could win the election outright by receiving more than 50% of the vote,but no candidate received a majority. More than forty candidates formed committees to run. Twenty-seven filed their declaration of intention to collect signatures for the ballot,and of these twelve qualified.
The PickUp is a free weekend-only nighttime shuttle bus service operating a single route along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood,California. First launched in 2013,it primarily serves passengers patronizing bars,clubs and other entertainment venues located along the Santa Monica corridor.

Sepideh Shyne is an Iranian-born American attorney,civil rights advocate,and member of the West Hollywood City Council who has been serving as West Hollywood's mayor since 2023. Shyne is the first LGBTQ+ Iranian-American to be elected to office as well as the first woman of color elected to the West Hollywood City Council,with her election making the first female-majority council in the city's history. She was an unsuccessful candidate to represent California's 30th congressional district in the 2024 election to succeed Adam Schiff who vacated the seat to run for the U.S. Senate.
