List of High Sheriffs of England, Wales and Northern Ireland 2008

This is a list of High Sheriffs in England and Wales, and of Sheriffs in Northern Ireland, for 2008. The appointments for England and Wales are announced each year around March. The majority of appointments are made by Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Privy Council. [1] However, the appointment for Cornwall is in the gift of the Duchy of Cornwall, [2] and those for Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside are in the gift of the Duchy of Lancaster. [3]

This is a list of High Sheriffs of Merseyside. The High Sheriff is the Queen's judicial representative in Merseyside, serving a one year term starting on 25 March.

The office of High Sheriff of Dyfed was established in 1974 as part of the creation of the county of Dyfed in Wales following the Local Government Act 1972, and effectively replaced the shrievalties of the amalgamated counties of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Since 1996 Dyfed has a purely ceremonial meaning, having been broken up for administrative purposes.

Deputy lieutenants of Aberdeen are commissioned by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen who, since 1899 by virtue of office, is also Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen City.

Together with the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan and the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, it replaced the office of the High Sheriff of Glamorgan.

2015 Dissolution Honours

The 2015 Dissolution Honours List was issued on 27 August 2015 upon the advice of the Prime Minister, David Cameron. The Life Peerages were announced separately from the other appointments, while it was gazetted as a single list on 22 September 2015.

The 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours are appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June. The Queen's Birthday Honours for the United Kingdom were announced on 9 June; the honours for New Zealand were announced on 4 June and for Australia on 11 June.

The 2021 New Year Honours are appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by citizens of those countries. The New Year Honours are awarded as part of the New Year celebrations at the start of January and those for 2021 were announced on 30 December 2020.
