Isuzu has used both its own engines and General Motors-built engines. It has also developed engines for General Motors, Renault, Saab, Honda, Nissan, Opel and Mazda.
Isuzu engines carry a two-character prefix which designate the number of cylinders and engine family. Engines available currently include the following:

Isuzu's first petrol engines were license built Hillman units for the locally assembled Minx, from 1953. Called the GH10 it has a bore of 65 mm (2.56 in) and a stroke of 95 mm (3.74 in) for a displacement of 1,260 cc (76.9 cu in). Power is 37.5 PS (28 kW). In 1955 this was updated to the GH12, a square design with a 76.2 mm bore and stroke for a displacement of 1,390 cc (84.8 cu in). This was upgraded in 1956 for more power, 46 PS (34 kW) rather than the original's 43 PS (32 kW), and was renamed GH100. In 1958, power increased yet again, to 50 PS (37 kW). [15]
For 1959 Isuzu developed their own square design (78 mm or 3.07 in) called the GL150, Isuzu's first own petrol engine. [16] Still showing unmistakable Hillman origins it displaces 1,491 cc (91.0 cu in) and has 60 PS (44 kW). [15] The GL150 was fitted to the 1959 Isuzu Elf and the 1961 Bellel.

G160/G161 | The eight-valve 1.6 L G160/G161 engine was used in the Isuzu Florian and the Isuzu Bellett GT, as well as a number of commercial vehicles including the Elf 150 (KA41/51). The G160 has a three main bearing crankshaft, whereas the G161 has five bearings. There is also an SOHC version of this called the G161S, which was used in the Florian and the Bellett. A new version of this engine, with the same dimensions, was called the G161Z and was installed in the Florian, Isuzu Gemini, Holden Gemini and Holden Rodeo, and Chevrolet Chevette. Part of the "Z" engine family, this was later renamed the 4ZA1. G200 | The 2.0 L G200Z engine was used in the 1981–1985 Chevrolet LUV and also Isuzu Trooper (Holden Jackaroo in Australia). With carburettor it has 86 hp, with EFI in the Isuzu Piazza 90 hp in the US and 110 hp in Japan. Isuzu considered the B engine their "small" truck engine. Initially designed in 1969 as a 3.6-liter four cylinder or a 5.4-liter six-cylinder direct injection unit, other displacements were added later on. [28] In 1980 a 3.3-liter version appeared.

Isuzu's C-series engine was a mainstay for their light truck production, as well as for industrial and marine uses. The engine was introduced in 1959; by 1985 over 2 million units had been produced. [28] It was replaced in 1985 by the larger J-series engine.

C220 C221 C223 | The C220, C221, C223 is a 2.2L engine with 58 hp and 93 ft·lb of torque used in the 1981–1982 Chevrolet LUV and the 1981 through 1987 Isuzu P'up; GM also used the C220 series as an option (RPO LQ7) with the Chevrolet S10/GMC S15; low demand led to its discontinuation after the 1985 model year where subsequent S-series were gasoline powered. It was also used in the 1979–1981 Isuzu 117 Coupé XD/XDL, one of the first cars with sporting pretensions to be fitted with a diesel engine. In the 117, claimed max power (JIS) increased to 73 PS (54 kW) at 4,300 rpm. [30] It is a bored out version of the 2-litre DL201 and was first seen in the 1964 Isuzu Elf, as the C220 with 62 PS. C240 | The C240 was often used in stationary and forklift applications. This family of engines started as the swirl chamber design, later modified into direct injection (4EE1), final improvement into a 16-valve direct common rail injection (4EE2).

4EE2 | This engine is now produced by Opel, who calls it the Ecotec DTi/CDTi. Better known as the "Circle L engine", it is made in Poland by Isuzu Motors Polska and is available in certain Opel and Honda vehicles. It was available in versions of 100, 110 and latest 130 PS. The only visible difference between the versions is the relocation of the oil filler cap from upper right (Honda 2003-2005, engine type 4EE 2, 100PS version, 5-hole injector nozzles), to lower right, then to lower left corner of the engine (Opel engine types A17DT A17DTC A17DTE [35] ). The J-series direct injection diesel engine was introduced in 1985, in 2.5 or 2.8 liter displacements. [28] Initially installed only in lighter duty versions of the Isuzu Elf, it soon found its way into other Isuzu products. It replaced the somewhat smaller C engine; later on 3.1- and 3.0-liter versions were also introduced - still with four cylinders in line.

The Mazda Familia, also marketed prominently as the Mazda 323, Mazda Protegé and Mazda Allegro, is a small family car that was manufactured by Mazda between 1963 and 2003. The Familia line was replaced by the Mazda3/Axela for 2004.
The General Motors LS-based small-block engines are a family of V8 and offshoot V6 engines designed and manufactured by the American automotive company General Motors. First introduced in 1997, the family is a continuation of the earlier first- and second-generation Chevrolet small-block engine, of which over 100 million have been produced altogether and is also considered one of the most popular V8 engines ever. Spanning three generations, a new, sixth generation is expected to enter production soon. Various small-block V8s were and still are available as crate engines.
The Chevrolet "big-block" engine is a term for a series of large-displacement, naturally-aspirated, 90°, overhead valve, gasoline-powered, V8 engines; that were developed and produced by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors, from the 1950s until present.
The Mazda B-series is a small-sized, iron-block, inline four-cylinder engine with belt-driven SOHC and DOHC valvetrain ranging in displacement from 1.1 to 1.8 litres. It was used in a wide variety of applications, from front-wheel drive economy vehicles to the turbocharged full-time 4WD 323 GTX and rear-wheel drive Miata.
The KA engines were a series of four-stroke inline-four gasoline piston engines manufactured by Nissan, which were offered in 2.0 and 2.4 L. The engines blocks were made of cast-iron, while the cylinder heads were made of aluminum.
Atlas is a name for a family of modern inline piston engines for trucks from General Motors, used in the GMT355 and GMT360 platforms. The series debuted in 2002 with the Oldsmobile Bravada, and is also used in the Buick Rainier, the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Colorado, the GMC Envoy and Canyon, the Hummer H3, Isuzu Ascender and i-370, and the Saab 9-7X. The engines use GM's Vortec name, and Straight-4, Straight-5, and Straight-6 engines are all part of the same family, sharing the same manufacturing equipment, rods, pistons, valves, and other parts. They feature coil-on-plug ignition systems, variable valve timing on the exhaust side, electronic throttle control, and a special oil pan with a pass-through for the half shafts in four-wheel drive vehicles. The inclusion of VVT on the exhaust camshaft side allows the Atlas series to meet emissions standards without the use of EGR, simplifying the engine design and increasing power for a broad power curve. The LL8 shares 75% of its components with the LK5 and L52; while the LK5 and L52 share 89% of their components.
The 122 engine was designed by Chevrolet and was used in a wide array of General Motors vehicles. The 122 was similar to the first two generations of the General Motors 60° V6 engine; sharing cylinder bore diameters and some parts. The 122 was available in the U.S. beginning in 1982 for the GM J platform compact cars and S-series trucks.
The Mitsubishi Astron or 4G5/4D5 engine, is a series of straight-four internal combustion engines first built by Mitsubishi Motors in 1972. Engine displacement ranged from 1.8 to 2.6 litres, making it one of the largest four-cylinder engines of its time.
The 6G7 series or Cyclone V6 engine is a series of V6 piston engines from Mitsubishi Motors. Five displacement variants were produced from 1986 to 2021, with both SOHC and DOHC, naturally aspirated and turbo charged layouts. While MIVEC variable valve timing has also been implemented in some versions the 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 L versions were also available with gasoline direct injection. This engine has been the flagship powerplant of the company except when they briefly built a V8 in 1999–2001. The staple of their high-end sedans, it was given twin-turbos for the Mitsubishi GTO, and became the most powerful car ever built by the company at the time.
The Isuzu MU is a mid-size SUV which was produced by Japan-based manufacturer Isuzu from 1989 to 2005.
The Circle L is an automobile engine produced by GM Powertrain Poland in Poland. It is a 1.7 L; 102.9 cu in (1,686 cc) inline-four 16-valve turbocharged diesel engine originally designed by Isuzu but now owned by General Motors. The engine was produced in Europe by General Motors for use in the Opel, Vauxhall and Chevrolet vehicles and by Honda for use in the Civic compact car.
The Cummins B Series is a family of diesel engines produced by American manufacturer Cummins. In production since 1984, the B series engine family is intended for multiple applications on and off-highway, light-duty, and medium-duty. In the automotive industry, it is best known for its use in school buses, public service buses in the United Kingdom, and Dodge/Ram pickup trucks.
The Nissan Z engine is a series of automobile and light truck four-cylinder engines that was engineered by Nissan Machinery, manufactured by the Nissan Motor Company from 1979 through August 1989. All Z engines had 4 cylinders, a total of 8 valves and a single overhead camshaft (SOHC). Displacements ranged from 1.6 L to 2.4 L.The Z series' engine blocks were nearly identical to those of the earlier L Series with the exception of the Z24. While the Z16 and Z18 engines had a deck height similar to the earlier L13/L14/L16/L18 variants, the Z24 had a taller deck height to accommodate a longer stroke. The most notable difference between the Z-series engine and its predecessor was the introduction of a new crossflow cylinder head which reduced emissions by moving the intake ports to the right side of the engine opposite the exhaust ports. This change allows the exhaust port velocity to more effectively scavenge the cylinder and reduce reversion pulses to enhance induction. This change also limits maximum valve lift/lobe lift profiles rendering the cylinder head and valve train configuration undesirable for high-performance uses. The Z series evolved into the NA and KA engines which, along with the smaller CA series, replaced the Z series.
The Honda D series inline-four cylinder engine is used in a variety of compact models, most commonly the Honda Civic, CRX, Logo, Stream, and first-generation Integra. Engine displacement ranges between 1.2 and 1.7 liters. The D Series engine is either SOHC or DOHC, and might include VTEC variable valve lift. Power ranges from 66 PS (49 kW) in the Logo to 130 PS (96 kW) in the Civic Si. D-series production commenced in 1984 and ended in 2005. D-series engine technology culminated with production of the D15B 3-stage VTEC (D15Z7) which was available in markets outside of the United States. Earlier versions of this engine also used a single port fuel injection system Honda called PGM-CARB, signifying the carburetor was computer controlled.
The Suzuki G engine is a series of three- and four-cylinder internal combustion engines manufactured by Suzuki Motor Corporation for various automobiles, primarily based on the GM M platform, as well as many small trucks such as the Suzuki Samurai and Suzuki Vitara and their derivatives.
The H family is a line of automobile 60° V6 engines from Suzuki. Ranging in displacement from 2.0 to 2.7 L, the H family was a modern all-aluminum engine with dual overhead cams, 24 valves, and multi-port fuel injection. It was co-developed with Mazda and Toyota, which used a similar design in their 2.0 L KF V6 and the Toyota VZ engine. The H family was introduced in 1994 with the H20, but Suzuki, Toyota and Mazda's designs diverged greatly with the former increasing displacement and the latter experimenting with alternative induction technologies and smaller engine sizes. The four-cylinder J engine, which appeared in 1996, shared parts and design with the H family.
The Isuzu Elf is a medium duty truck produced by Isuzu since 1959. Outside Japan it is known as N series and Q Series. The range was originally mainly available in Japan and other Asian countries. Australia was another important market for the Elf and N series – to the extent that it was manufactured there from the 1970s using many local components. Since the early 1980s, it has also been sold and built in the United States, and also as the Isuzu N-Series. Only North America receives the wide-cab version.
The Isuzu Forward is a line of medium-duty commercial vehicles manufactured by Isuzu since 1970, following the earlier TY model which occupied the same slot in the market. All F-series trucks are cab over designs and the cabin comes fully built from the factory. Most models come with a diesel engine; but, some markets get CNG derivatives as well. The F-series is available a variety of cab styles, engines, 4WD or 2WD depending on the market it is sold. While Isuzu's main plant is in Japan, these trucks are locally assembled from CKD kits in numerous countries.
The Isuzu Faster is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Isuzu between 1972 and 2002 over three generations. It was sold under myriad different nameplates, most commonly they were marketed under their respective model codes: Isuzu KB for the first and second generations, TF for the third. In Japan, the "Faster" name was eventually supplanted by Rodeo. It was also marketed under a number of other brands from the General Motors portfolio. The Faster was succeeded worldwide by Isuzu D-Max, except in Japan and North America.
The Suzuki K engine family is a series of automobile engines from Suzuki, introduced in 1994. Displacements range from 0.7 L to 1.5 L. All engines have aluminium cylinder blocks with three or four cylinders in-line. Cylinder heads have two overhead camshafts, driven by chain, and four valves per cylinder. Fuel is gasoline/petrol, metered by multipoint fuel injection or direct injection. Some variants are turbocharged.
