S. P. Balasubrahmanyam was an Indian playback singer, who was well known for his work in South Indian films. Having made his playback singing debut in 1966 through the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna , he sang over 40,000 songs in multiple languages of India. [1] [2] He is the recipient of six National Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and one Filmfare Award. Balasubrahmanyam was also a recipient of 25 Nandi AwardsBest Male Playback Singer, Best Music Director, Best Male Dubbing Artist, Special Jury Award, and Best Supporting Actor categories. He has also won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and three Karnataka State Film Awards.

The first of his National Awards came for his work in the 1979 musical film, Sankarabharanam . Two years later he entered the Hindi film industry through Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981), winning the award for the second time. He also received a Filmfare nomination for Best Male Playback Singer for the film. In the subsequent years, he won the National Film Awards for Saagara Sangamam (1983) and Rudraveena (1988)—both Telugu films. In 1989, he received his first Filmfare Award for Maine Pyar Kiya . He won the first of his four South Filmfare Awards for Subha Sankalpam , a film that he produced. His first Filmfare Award in the playback singing category came for Sri Ramadasu (2006), followed by Mozhi (2007) and Aaptha Rakshaka (2010). Other honors for his singing career included Lata Mangeshkar Award, Sangeetha Ganga Award, Film Fans' Association Award. In addition, he was also honored with Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011), Padma Vibhushan (2021), [3] the fourth, third and second highest civilian honors by the Government of India. Alongside his singing career, Balasubrahmanyam worked as an actor, music composer, voice actor, and film producer.

Kattassery Joseph Yesudas is an Indian playback singer and musician who sings Indian classical, devotional and film songs. He is widely considered one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian music and a cultural icon of Kerala. Yesudas is estimated to have recorded more than 50,000 songs in various Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Tulu, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Marathi as well as Arabic, English, Latin, and Russian, in a career spanning six decades. He is often referred to as Gaanagandharvan. Yesudas holds the record for singing 11 songs in different languages in a single day. He has also composed a number of Malayalam film songs during the 1970s and 1980s.

Daggubati Ramanaidu was an Indian film producer known for his work in Telugu cinema. He founded Suresh Productions in 1964 which became of one of the largest film production companies in India. He was placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most films produced by an individual, with more than 150 films in 13 Indian languages. He also served as a Member of Parliament for the Bapatla constituency in Andhra Pradesh in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004.

Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra is an Indian playback singer and Carnatic musician. In a career spanning over four decades, she has recorded over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages, as well as foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese, English and French. She is also known for her extensive history of collaboration with music composers like A. R. Rahman, Ilaiyaraja, Hamsalekha, M. M. Keeravani and with the playback singers K. J. Yesudas and S. P. Sampath Kumar, known by his stage name Vishnuvardhan, was an Indian actor who worked predominantly in Kannada cinema besides also having sporadically appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam language films. Vishnuvardhan has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 220 films. A popular cultural icon of Karnataka, and holds the status of a matinée idol amongst the Kannada diaspora. He is popularly called as Sahasa Simha, Dada and The Angry Young Man of Kannada Cinema. Vishnuvardhan's contributions to Kannada cinema have been praised by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. The Government of Karnataka honoured him with the Rajyothsava Prashasthi in 1990 and the Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his contributions to Kannada cinema. He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.

In addition, she recorded thousands of devotionals and private albums and also participated in numerous solo concerts in India and abroad.

Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards. They are presented by Filmfare magazine to honour artistic and technical excellence in the Indian film industry encompassing four languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. When it was introduced in 1954, the Filmfare Awards initially only recognized achievements in the Hindi film industry. In 1964 the awards were extended to Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi languages. Malayalam cinema was included in the awards in 1967 and Kannada cinema followed in 1970.

<i>Meghasandesam</i> 1982 film directed by Dasari Narayana Rao

Meghasandesam is a 1982 Telugu-language drama film, produced and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao under his Taraka Prabhu Films banner. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Jaya Prada, Jayasudha and music composed by Ramesh Naidu. This film is the 200th movie of Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The film was featured in the Indian Panorama section at the 9th International Film Festival of India, and the Moscow film festival. It won four Awards including Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 30th National Film Awards "For its lyrical and aesthetic qualities", the Filmfare award for Best Telugu Film and Nandi award for Best Feature Film. The film won nine Nandi Awards.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sunitha (Telugu singer)</span> Indian playback singer

Sunitha Upadrashta is an Indian playback singer and voice actor who primarily works in Telugu films. She is a recipient of nine Nandi Awards and two Filmfare Awards South in various categories. She also received a National Award from All India Radio under light music category when she was 15 years old. She received her first Nandi award in the year 1999 and bagged Nandi Awards in a row for the years 2002 to 2006 and again for the years 2010 to 2012. She was also honored with Lata Mangeshkar Best Singer Award for 2011 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

<i>Siri Siri Muvva</i> 1976 Indian film

Siri Siri Muvva( in Telugu సిరి సిరి మువ్వ) is a 1976 Indian Telugu-language drama film written and directed by K. Viswanath. It stars Jaya Prada and Chandra Mohan. K. Viswanath later remade the film with his leading lady Jaya Prada, as Sargam, in 1979. Siri Siri Muvva was screened at the International Film Festival of India, and Moscow International Film Festival, and has received two National Film Awards.
