The Ministry of Railways launched "Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat" campaign in 2015 to improve cleanliness standards of trains, stations and experience for Indian passengers. The campaign was introduced in 2015-2016 Railway Budget. The survey is conducted across 720 major railway stations including NSG Category and SG Category stations for cleanliness ranking.

The survey is commissioned by the Environment & Housekeeping Management Directorate - Railway Board, Ministry of Railways. The survey is conducted by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. [1] [2]

Indian Railways Government of India statutory body

Indian Railways (IR) is a statutory body under the ownership of Ministry of Railways, Government of India that operates India's national railway system. It manages the fourth largest national railway system in the world by size, with a total route length of 126,511 km (78,610 mi) as of 31 December 2021. 45,881 km (28,509 mi) or 75% of all the broad-gauge routes are electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz AC electric traction as of 1 April 2021.

Khargone City in Madhya Pradesh, India

Khargone is a city in Madhya Pradesh state of in India. It is the administrative headquarters of the Khargone district. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, is a federal ministry with executive authority over the formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to the housing and urban development in India. The ministry was under the charge of Venkaiah Naidu and was given to Hardeep Singh Puri when Naidu was elected Vice President of India. The Ministry became independent from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in 2004, but was later re-merged with it in 2017.

Vijayawada Junction railway station is an Indian Railways station in Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh, categorized as a Non-Suburban Grade-2 (NSG-2) station in Vijayawada railway division. Situated at the junction of Howrah–Chennai and New Delhi–Chennai main lines, it is the fourth busiest railway station in the country after Howrah Junction, Kanpur Central and New Delhi. The station serves about 1.40 lakh passengers, over 190 express and 170 freight trains every day. It is one of the major railway junctions of the Indian Railways and is a nationally important halt.

Surat railway station

Surat Railway Station is a major railway station serving Surat, beside Gothangam, Kosad, Utran, Udhna Junction, Bhestan, Niyol and Sachin. It is under the administrative control of the Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Surat is A1 – category railway station of Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways. It is on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara–Mumbai rail route. The railway station was built in 1860.

Eluru railway station

Swachh Bharat Mission Country-wide campaign to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management in India

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. It is a restructured version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2009 that failed to achieve its intended targets.

Changanasseri railway station

Changanasseri railway station is a railway station in Kottayam district, Kerala and falls under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division of the Southern Railway zone, Indian Railways. Changanassery is the largest railway station in Kottayam district. It is an NSG 4 category station. There is a chance to halt few more trains in Changanacherry due to the increase in the number of the rushing passengers in Kottayam and Thiruvalla station from Kanjirappally, Changanassery and Kuttanad regions.

Kumbakonam railway station

Kumbakonam railway station is a railway station serving the city of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India. The station is a part of the Tiruchirappalli railway division of the Southern Railway Zone and connects the city to various parts of the state as well as the rest of the country.The station was declared as cleanest railway station in Tamil Nadu and ranked fifth best in the national level in 2016. It is classified as an "'A' category railway station" in the Trichy railway division of the Southern Railway Zone.It is one of the busiest and top revenue generating stations of the Southern Railway zone after Tiruchirapalli TPJ, Thanjavur TJ in Tiruchirapalli division. The Shradha Sethu express connected Kumbakonam to Ayodhya. The well-known Mahamaham tank is 3 km (1.9 mi) from the railway station.

Suratgarh railway station is a main railway station in Sri Ganganagar district, Rajasthan. Its code is SOG. It serves Suratgarh city. The station consists of four platforms, none of which is well sheltered. It lacks many facilities, including water and sanitation. The station lies on the Jodhpur–Bathinda line and is well connected to the rest of India. Ranked in Top ten in Station Cleanliness Survey 2019.

This is a list of Indian states and territories by the percentage of households which are open defecation free, that is those that have access to sanitation facilities, in both urban and rural areas along with data from the Swachh Bharat Mission, National Family Health Survey, and the National Sample Survey. The reliability of this information can be questioned, as it has been observed that there is still open defecation in some states claimed "ODF".

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in villages, cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2 October 2019. The first survey was undertaken in 2016 and covered 73 cities ; by 2020 the survey had grown to cover 4242 cities and was said to be the largest cleanliness survey in the world. The surveys are carried out by Quality Council of India.

Post liberalization, India embarked on a process of creating the quality infrastructure in the country which can help Indian products and services easy access to foreign markets in the new order under WTO regime. In the process, an organization was sought to be established which would function as the National Accreditation body (NAB). The responsibility to set up the organization was given to the then Department of Industries.

Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil–Kanyakumari line Indian railway line

The Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil–Kanyakumari line is a line in the Southern Railway zone of Indian Railways. It connects the cities Thiruvananthapuram and Nagercoil. The railway opened on 15 April 1979.

Nagercoil–Tirunelveli line

The Nagercoil–Tirunelveli line connects the cities of Tirunelveli and Nagercoil in the state of Tamilnadu in Southern Railway zone. Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil–Kanyakumari line and Tirunelveli–Nagercoil construction projects were inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 6 September 1972. The maximum speed of trains running between Tirunelveli to Nagercoil is 100 km per hour.

"Ho Halla" is an Indore Swachhta Anthem song for the 2017 edition of Swachh Survekshan, sung by Shaan, composed by Rishiking and conceived by Parikipandla Narahari, an IAS Officer serving as the district collector. The purpose of the song was to encourage the city of Indore to achieve the highest levels of cleanliness. It became very popular in Indore with residents using the track as their caller tunes.
