Chris Gayle is a West Indian cricketer who captained the West Indies cricket team from 2007 to 2010. [1] A left-handed batsman, he has scored centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) in Test and One Day International (ODI) matches on fifteen and twenty-five occasions respectively. He has also scored century in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket on two occasions. Gayle made his Test debut in March 2000 against Zimbabwe, scoring 33 and 0. [2] He made his first Test century the following year, scoring 175 against the same team during the first match of the 2001 series between the teams. [3] Gayle's first double century came in June 2002 against New Zealand when he scored 204 in a man of the match performance in Queen's Park. [4] He scored his first triple century against South Africa at Antigua Recreation Ground in May 2005. [5] His highest score of 333—fourth highest total for the West Indies—came against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium in November 2010. [6] [n 1] Gayle is one of four players to score two triple centuries in Test cricket. [n 2] He has scored centuries against seven different opponents, and has been most successful against New Zealand and South Africa, making three against each of them. He has scored Test centuries at twelve different cricket grounds, including eight at venues outside the West Indies. [9] [10]

Gayle made his ODI debut in 1999 against India, [11] and his maiden century in the format came three years later against Kenya at the Simba Union Ground. [12] His highest score of 215 came during the 2015 Cricket World Cup against Zimbabwe at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. With five scores over 150 in ODIs, he is joint-third in the list. [n 3] Gayle has scored ODI centuries at nineteen different cricket grounds. Eighteen of his ODI centuries came at fifteen different venues outside the West Indies. [14] [15] Along with Shikhar Dhawan, Herschelle Gibbs, and Sourav Ganguly, Gayle holds the record for the most centuries in the ICC Champions Trophy, with three. [16]

Having made his first T20I appearance in February 2006, Gayle became the first player to score a century in the format when he made 117 against South Africa in the first match of the 2007 ICC World Twenty20. [17] As of July 2018, he is one of nine players to have scored more than one century in the format. [19] As of 2019, he is eleventh overall—tied with Sanath Jayasuriya—among all-time century-makers in international cricket. [20]

Nicknamed "The Universe Boss", Gayle is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most destructive batsmen to have played Twenty20 cricket, and by some as the best ever. He played a crucial role in the West Indies teams that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, 2012 ICC World Twenty20 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20. He was a good ODI and Test batter as well.

Nathan John Astle is a former New Zealand cricketer, who played all formats of the game. A right-handed batsman who played as an opener in One Day Internationals (ODI), while batting in the middle order in Test matches. In a career that spanned 12 years, Astle played 81 Tests and 223 ODIs accumulating 4,702 and 7,090 runs respectively. As of 2022, he is New Zealand's fourth-most prolific run scorer. Astle collected 154 wickets with his medium-paced bowling at the international level. He holds two records – scoring the fastest double century in Test cricket and the second highest individual score in the fourth innings of a Test match. Both the records were achieved when he made 222 against England in Christchurch in 2002. Astle was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy. His innings of 145 not out is the highest individual score by a batsman in the ICC Champions Trophy, which he scored in the 2004 tournament.

Devon Sheldon Smith is a former cricketer who featured as an opening or top order left-handed batsman. He played for the West Indies and for the Windward Islands in regional tournaments. Smith is also, with a sum of 11,321 runs, the highest runscorer in the history of West Indian first class cricket competitions.

Marlon Nathaniel Samuels is a former Jamaican cricketer who played internationally for the West Indies in all three formats, and a former ODI captain. He is a right-handed middle order batsman and an off-spinner. He was a key member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20, and was named man of the match in the final of both tournaments, becoming the first man to achieve the feat.

Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian cricketer. A left-handed opening batsman, he captains Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League and plays for Delhi in first-class cricket. At the 2013 Champions Trophy and 2017 Champions Trophy, Dhawan was the leading run-scorer and was awarded the 'Golden Bat' in both the tournaments. He was the leading run scorer for India at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He also became the first player in the history of IPL to score two back-to-back centuries. He was awarded the 'Player of the Tournament' for his exploits in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, which he won with his national side. In the 2018 Asia Cup which Dhawan won with his national side, he was named Player Of The Tournament as he was the top scorer of the tournament with the bat.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Virender Sehwag</span> Retired Indian cricketer (born 1978)

Virender Sehwag is a former Indian cricketer who represented India from 1999 to 2013. Widely regarded as one of the most destructive openers and one of the greatest batsman of his era, he played for Delhi Capitals in IPL and Delhi and Haryana in Indian domestic cricket. He played his first One Day International in 1999 and joined the Indian Test side in 2001. In April 2009, Sehwag became the first Indian to be honoured as the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for his performance in 2008, subsequently becoming the first player of any nationality to retain the award for 2009. He worked as stand-in captain occasionally during absence of main captain of India, also worked as Vice-Captain for Indian squad. He is former captain of Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Ranji Team. During his time with India, Sehwag was a member of the team that was one of the joint winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, the winners of the 2007 T20 World Cup, and the winners of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. During the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, Sehwag was the highest run scorer with 271 runs.
