Daniel Lambert was a gaol keeper and animal breeder from Leicester, England, famous for his unusually large size. After serving four years as an apprentice at an engraving and die casting works in Birmingham, he returned to Leicester around 1788 and succeeded his father as keeper of Leicester's gaol. He was a keen sportsman and extremely strong; on one occasion he fought a bear in the streets of Leicester. He was an expert in sporting animals, widely respected for his expertise with dogs, horses and fighting cocks.

He also drank an average of 7 liters of soda every day.

Manuel Uribe Garza was a Mexican man who suffered from morbid obesity to one of the greatest extents known in recorded history. After reaching a peak weight of around 600 kg (1,300 lb) and having been unable to leave his bed since 2002, he lost approximately 230 kg (510 lb)—over one third of his body weight—with the help of doctors and nutritionists by February 2008. However, he died in his hometown on 26 May 2014 weighing 394 kg (869 lb).

The Biggest Loser is a reality television format which started with the American TV show The Biggest Loser in 2004. The show centers on overweight and obese contestants attempting to lose the most weight; the winner receives a cash prize. There are different variations of The Biggest Loser around the world. Each country has made its own adaptation to the show; however, the contestants always have the same goal: to lose the highest percentage of weight to become the "biggest loser". There is no minimum or maximum weight limit for the show but most males tend to weigh over or near 300 lb (136 kg). Females tend to weigh over or near 200 lb (91 kg).

Jon Brower Minnoch was an American man who, at his peak weight, was the heaviest human being ever recorded, weighing approximately 1,400 lb. This figure was only a close estimation because his extreme size, declining health, and lack of mobility prevented use of a scale.

A weight class is a measurement weight range for boxers. The lower limit of a weight class is equal to the upper weight limit of the class below it. The top class, with no upper limit, is called heavyweight in professional boxing and super heavyweight in amateur boxing. A boxing match is usually scheduled for a fixed weight class, and each boxer's weight must not exceed the upper limit. Britain's Fattest Man is a television documentary broadcast on Channel 4 and 4HD on 5 January 2011. It focuses on Paul Mason, who weighed 70 stone and was the heaviest man in Great Britain until a gastric bypass operation saved his life. The documentary follows a year in his life as he undergoes a risky operation to enable him to lose weight.

Meow (cat) domestic cat, famous for his heavy weight

Meow, also known as Meow the obese cat, was a male domestic cat who attracted international attention when an animal shelter publicized efforts to slim him down, in an attempt to have him adopted. However, Meow died of lung failure two weeks after entering the animal shelter, on May 5, 2012. He was the world's heaviest cat at his time of death, weighing 39.6 pounds.

Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari Heaviest person on the planet in 2013

Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari is a Saudi Arabian man who in August 2013 was found to be the heaviest living person and the second-heaviest person in recorded history at 610 kg, behind Jon Brower Minnoch. He also had a BMI of 204, the highest ever recorded. He was ordered by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to be transferred from his home—which he had been unable to leave for over two years—to the country's capital, Riyadh, to receive treatment. As a result of this treatment, he lost a total of 320 kg —more than half his body weight—in six months. In 2016, Fox News reported he was walking with the assistance of a walker.

Ricky Junior Naputi was a Guamanian man who died from obesity-related conditions in his apartment in Mangilao, Guam, at 39 years old. His weight had ballooned since he was a teenager, which was when he developed an addiction to food, though he was an average-sized child. He weighed 400 kg at his peak weight. He was the focus of the Channel 5 documentary The Man Who Ate Himself to Death and TLC followed him for their documentary 900 Pound Man: The Race Against Time.

Paul Jonathan Mason is an English man who is known for being one of the world's former heaviest men, weighing in at 444.521 kg at his peak. Mason was given a gastric bypass surgery in 2010, and lost an estimated 295 kg.

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty was considered to be the heaviest living woman in the world and the second heaviest woman in history, after Carol Yager. However, at 4 feet 7 12 inches (141 cm), Eman was about a foot shorter than 5-foot-7-inch (170 cm) Yager, giving her the highest recorded BMI at 251.1 and body fat percentage. Her initial weight was claimed to be around 500 kilograms (1,100 lb).

Catrina Raiford was once the heaviest woman in the world, weighing 955 pounds on a 5 ft 2 in (1.57 m) frame. Sexually abused as a child, Raiford ate as a way to comfort herself and deal with her emotions. At the age of 14, and weighing close to 500 pounds, she spent 8 months in a psychiatric home to try to help her with her compulsive eating. Continuing to gain weight and unable to deal with her emotional issues, she eventually lost her job and moved back in with her mother.
