Mavilai Ramasamy Gandhi is an Indian politician and a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Nagercoil. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. [2] He is the former vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Party,Tamil Nadu.
Gandhi was born into an agricultural family in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Scott Christian College at Madurai Kamaraj University in 1967. [3] Gandhi remains unmarried. [4]
He played a pivotal role in establishing the Hindu nationalist organisation,Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Kanyakumari. [4] He was one of the leaders of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Kanyakumari district. [5]
In 1967,he was the Kanyakumari district president of Jana Sangh and in 1975 he was the Tamil Nadu state secretary of the party. He was also jailed during The Emergency. [4] He served as Tamil Nadu state BJP vice-president from 2016 and 2020.
He was assaulted by a gang with sickles when he was going for a walk on 21 April 2013 and suffered multiple injuries in this attempt to murder him. [6] [7]
He unsuccessfully contested from Colachel in 1984 and Nagercoil in 2006. Gandhi contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election and won against DMK's former Minister N. Suresh Rajan by a margin of 11,669 votes. [8]

Muthuvel Karunanidhi was an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011. He is popularly referred to as Kalaignar (Artist) and Mutthamizh Arignar for his contributions to Tamil literature. He had the longest intermittent tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 6,863 days in office. He was also a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. Karunanidhi has the record of never losing an election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly,having won 13 times since his first victory in 1957. Before entering politics,he worked in the Tamil film industry as a screenwriter. He also made contributions to Tamil literature,having written stories,plays,novels,and a multiple-volume memoir. Karunanidhi died on 7 August 2018 at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai after a series of prolonged,age-related illnesses.

He was the State President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee till 2 February 2019 and former secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. His introduction to politics in 1977 was facilitated by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,M. G. Ramachandran. Ramachandran founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 1972 and was facing his first elections for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election in 1977. He identified Thirunavukkarasar,a lawyer by profession,to contest the Aranthangi assembly constituency.
