The Mayotte national football team represents the French overseas department and region of Mayotte in international football.
Mayotte is a member of neither FIFA nor CAF, so it is not eligible to enter the World Cup or the African Cup of Nations.
Between 2000–06, Mayotte had played two friendly matches against the French overseas island of Réunion and three against Madagascar.
In 2007, the team competed for the first time in the Indian Ocean Games, finishing in third position after losing against Madagascar in the semi-final and beating Mauritius in the third-place playoff after a penalty-shootout.
In 2012, the team in Coupe de l'Outre-Mer Beat Tahiti champions of OFC Nations Cup 3–1. also beat New Caledonia champions of Pacific Games and Runners-Up of OFC Nations Cup 2–0.

The Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean consist of four small coral islands, an atoll, as well as a reef in the Indian Ocean; they constitute the fifth district of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, though sovereignty over some or all of the islands is contested by the Comoros, Madagascar, and Mauritius. None of the islands have ever had a permanent population, though the French armed forces maintain small troop contingents on some of the islands.
The New Caledonia men's national football team is the national team of New Caledonia and is controlled by the Fédération Calédonienne de Football. Although they were only admitted to FIFA in 2004, they have been participating in the OFC Nations Cup since its inception. They have been one of this relatively small region's strongest teams, finishing second in 2008 and 2012, and third in 1973 and 1980. Réunion is not a member of FIFA and is only an associate member of CAF, and is therefore not eligible to enter either the World Cup or the Africa Cup of Nations. However, it has played numerous matches, most of them against the island nations of Madagascar, Mauritius, and the Seychelles.
The Indian Ocean Island Games is a quadrennial multi-sport event from Indian Ocean island nations. The Games was created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1977 and currently gather the island nations and territories of Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion and the Maldives. The number of athletes who participate has increased over the years, it went from 1000 athletes in 1979 to over 1500 participants in 2003 and 2007 and over 2000 participants in 2019.

La Coupe de l'Outre-Mer de football was a biennial football competition that was created in 2008. It was designed to have the regional football teams of the overseas departments and territories of France play against each other. This competition replaces the Coupe des Clubs Champions de l'Outre-Mer that involved clubs from the territories. The first edition took place between 24 September and 4 October 2008 in Île-de-France. Only players playing for a club of the regional leagues were eligible.
The 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games were the 8th edition of the competition, held in Victoria, Seychelles. The last edition was held in 2007 in Madagascar.
