Mesechthistatus is a genus of longhorn beetles of the subfamily Lamiinae. [1] [2] [3] [4] Mesechthistatus have atrophied hindwings and are thereby flightless. [1]
There are four widely recognized species that all occur in Japan: [1] [2] [3] [4]
Mesechthistatus taniguchii is also known from China. [5] A fifth species, Mesechthistatus yamahoiMitono, 1943 had not been recorded since the initial description of a specimen from Taiwan and its status as a species was deemed questionable by Nakamine & Takeda in 2008; [1] however, it is treated as valid by the Catalogue of Life in Taiwan that also includes a modern photograph. [6] Yet other sources place this species in its own monotypic genus, Mimechthistatus . [7] [8] [9]
