Micryletta inornata is a rare species of frog in the family Microhylidae. It is endemic to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, and is the type species for the genus Micryletta .
Many populations of Micryletta found across southeast Asia and the Andaman Islands were formerly classified under this species, but a 2019 study found most of these to represent either undescribed taxa of Micryletta or to fall under already-described related species such as M. erythropoda . Due to this, the study restricted the designation of M. inornata to just the populations known from Sumatra. These Sumatran populations had not been seen for over 129 years since Boulenger's description of the species until several were rediscovered during surveys while the study was underway. [2]
Sumatra is one of the Sunda Islands of western Indonesia. It is the largest island that is fully within Indonesian territory, as well as the sixth-largest island in the world at 473,481 km2 (182,812 mi.2), not including adjacent islands such as the Mentawai Islands, Enggano Island, Nias Island, Simeulue Island, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung Islands and Krakatoa archipelago.
Pseudocalotes is a genus of agamid lizards endemic to Southeast Asia.
The Microhylidae, commonly known as narrow-mouthed frogs, are a geographically widespread family of frogs. The 683 species are in 63 genera and 11 subfamilies, which is the largest number of genera of any frog family.
Rasbora is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae. They are native to freshwater habitats in South and Southeast Asia, as well as southeast China. A single species, R. gerlachi, is only known from an old specimen that reputedly originated from Africa (Cameroon), but this locality is considered doubtful. They are small, up to 17 cm (6.7 in) long, although most species do not surpass 10 cm (4 in) and many have a dark horizontal stripe.
Homalopsis buccata is a species of water snake in the Homalopsidae family found in tropical areas of Southeast Asia.
Salvadori's pheasant is a landfowl bird of genus Lophura, native to Indonesia. It is found in the mountain rainforests of Sumatra. Thus it is also known as the Sumatran pheasant. This bird was first described in 1879 by the Italian ornithologist Tommaso Salvadori. The species name inornata means "without ornament".
Bitis inornata is a venomous viper species found only in Cape Province, South Africa. No subspecies are currently recognized.
The Sunda clouded leopard is a medium-sized wild cat native to Borneo and Sumatra. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 2015, as the total effective population probably consists of fewer than 10,000 mature individuals, with a decreasing population trend. On both Sunda islands, it is threatened by deforestation.
Pseudomystus is a genus of catfishes of the family Bagridae.
Micryletta erythropoda, commonly known as the Mada paddy frog, is a species of frog in the family Microhylidae. It is known from Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are swamps, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes. While formerly classified in the genus Microhyla, a 2018 study found it to belong to the genus Micryletta instead. A study performed in 2019 found that several Micryletta populations in southern Myanmar and Thailand that were formerly assigned to M. inornata actually belong to M. erythropoda; prior to this, M. erythropoda was considered endemic to Vietnam.
Micryletta steinegeri is a species of frog in the family Microhylidae. It is endemic to central and southern Taiwan. In the past it has also been considered as a synonym of Micryletta inornata from continental Asia.
The Raffles' banded langur, also known as the banded leaf monkey or banded surili, is a species of primate in the family Cercopithecidae. It is endemic to Singapore and southern Peninsular Malaysia. The species underwent taxonomic revisions in 2019 and 2020, in which two former subspecies were elevated to separate species. As a result, the Raffles' banded langur meets the criteria for being listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. It is mainly threatened by habitat loss.
The Allen Cays rock iguana or Allen Cays iguana is a subspecies of the northern Bahamian rock iguana that is found on Allen's Cay and adjacent islands in the Bahamas. Its status in the IUCN Red List is critically endangered, with an estimated wild population of 482–632 animals.
Alcimochthes is a genus of Asian crab spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1885. As of June 2020 it contains three species, found in eastern Asia: A. limbatus, A. melanophthalmus, and A. meridionalis.
Oligodon ancorus, commonly known as the northern short-headed snake, is a species of colubrid snake found on the islands of Luzon and Mindoro in the Philippines, and the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. However, whether the populations from Sumatra, described as Oligodon rhombifer, belong to this species has been contested.
Hebius is a genus of snakes in the family Colubridae.
Oligodon huahin is a species of kukri snakes in the genus Oligodon. The species was first discovered and described in late 2016, and the article was published July 13, 2017. It is only known from its type locality but its range is likely to be more extensive. O. huahin is thought to be very secretive, similar to other species of the genus Oligodon. This theory is supported by the type specimen, which all were males, suggesting that it was found during the mating season where males are out and actively search for females to reproduce. This may also explain why this species had not yet been discovered
