Miracle Mart was a supermarket chain with locations in Bismarck and Minot, North Dakota.
A supermarket is a self-service shop offering a wide variety of food, beverages and household products, organized into sections and shelves. It is larger and has a wider selection than earlier grocery stores, but is smaller and more limited in the range of merchandise than a hypermarket or big-box market.
Bismarck is the capital of the U.S. state of North Dakota and the county seat of Burleigh County. It is the second-most populous city in North Dakota after Fargo. The city's population was estimated in 2017 at 72,865, while its metropolitan population was 132,142. In 2017, Forbes magazine ranked Bismarck as the seventh fastest-growing small city in the United States.
Minot is a city in and the county seat of Ward County, North Dakota, United States, in the state's north-central region. It is most widely known for the Air Force base located approximately 15 miles (24 km) north of the city. With a population of 40,888 at the 2010 census, Minot is the fourth largest city in the state and a trading center for a large portion of northern North Dakota, southwestern Manitoba, and southeastern Saskatchewan. Founded in 1886 during the construction of Jim Hill's Great Northern Railway, Minot is also known as "Magic City", commemorating its remarkable growth in size over a short time.
The chain began with a single location in Minot, North Dakota, which had existed for some time before it was purchased by Iowa businessman Steve Barlow in 1976. The chain expanded in 1999 with the purchase of Minot's SunMart locations from the Nash Finch Company.
The Nash Finch Company was a Fortune 500 company based in Edina, Minnesota, United States. The company was involved in food distribution to private companies, primarily independent supermarkets, and military commissaries; and the operation of retail stores.
In 2002, a Barlow-owned Econofoods location in Bismarck was rebranded as a Miracle Mart, bringing the total number of locations to five.
Econofoods is a chain of grocery stores located in the USA in Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and North Dakota. Econofoods is owned by SpartanNash, and is one of several supermarket brands operated by the company. All Econofoods stores in Michigan and two in Wisconsin are owned by T & C Markets of Brillion, WI. All Econofoods locations in South Dakota have closed.
In 2005, the three Miracle Mart locations in Minot were sold to the owners of Minot's Marketplace Foods, and have since been re branded to the Marketplace name.
