The National League Knockout Cup is a motorcycle speedway third tier Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom. [1]

Contents

The competition was previously known as the Academy League Knockout Cup (1995) and the Conference League Knockout Cup (1996-2008) until it changed name to the National League Knockout Cup. [2]

The 2020 and 2021 editions of the Cup were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3]

The National League speedway 2019 now known as the National Development League for the 2019 season was the third tier/division of British speedway. There were several team changes for the 2019 league season with reigning league champions and KO cup winners Eastbourne Eagles, along with the Birmingham Brummies, moving into the SGB Championship. Coventry Bees, who rode their home meetings at Leicester the previous season, did not enter the league, but Leicester Lions entered a team. Cradley Heathens fully entered the league after the previous season National Trophy only commitment, while the Buxton Hitmen decided not compete and only run open meetings (friendlies). It was announced on Tuesday 10 September before the end of the 2019 National Development League season that Stoke Potters' home venue at Loomer Road Stadium had been sold and that the team would not be operating in 2020.

Leicester Lion Cubs are a speedway team that was formed in November 2018 to race in the National League at the Beaumont Park Stadium in Leicester. This team is the second and junior Leicester Lions speedway team racing at this venue.

The National Development League 2021 is the third tier/division of British speedway for the 2021 season.

The 2022 National Development League was the third division/tier of British speedway for the 2022 season. It is a semi-professional development league, containing the junior sides of many SGB Premiership and SGB Championship clubs.

The 2023 National Development League is the third division/tier of British speedway for the 2023 season. It is a semi-professional development league, containing mainly the junior sides of SGB Premiership and SGB Championship clubs. Leicester Lion Cubs will defend the title.
