The 1947 National League Division Three was the inaugural season of British speedway's National League Division Three [1] Speedway in 1947 was restricted in terms of fixtures and attendances following the fallout from World War II. [2]

With several new teams joining British Speedway in 1947, a third league tier was created for the first time. [3] The new teams included the Cradley Heath Cubs, racing at Dudley Wood Stadium, [4] Hanley Potters following an eight year absence from British speedway [5] and Exeter Falcons after a lease was signed by Motor Sports (Exeter) Ltd (led by Frank Buckland) with the landlords County Athletic Ground Company. [6]

Eastbourne Eagles won the title in their first season of league speedway. [7] [8]

Peter Robinson of Southampton topped the averages. [9]

The league was an amalgamation of the National League and the Provincial League.

The 1930 Southern League was the second season of speedway in the United Kingdom for Southern British teams. The Northern teams also had their second season known as the 1930 Speedway Northern League.

The 1946 Northern League was a season of speedway racing in the United Kingdom for Northern British teams in 1946. With a National League in place and no Southern counterpart, it was effectively a second tier.

The 1952 Southern League was the first season of the newly created regional third tier of speedway racing in the United Kingdom for Southern British teams. From the defunct National League Division Three of the previous season, only Poole Pirates did not join the new league. Ipswich Witches and Southampton Saints were new entrants.
