The 2024 SGB Championship season will be the 77th season of the second tier of British Speedway and the 7th known as the SGB Championship. [1] The league was sponsored by Cab Direct.
Nine clubs will compete in the Championship during 2024, [1] with Workington Comets replacing Birmingham Brummies following their respective league changes. [2] [3] Edinburgh Monarchs once again remained in the league despite problems surrounding their home venue. [4]
The league format will be the same as in 2023, with each team racing against each other twice (home and away), meaning a total of 16 fixtures each during the season.
The top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The points limit for team construction was reduced from 40 to 38 points. [1]
Glasgow Tigers will defend the title, while Scunthorpe Scorpions will defend the knockout cup.

The Workington Comets are a British motorcycle speedway club, based in Workington, Cumbria, racing out of the GT Tyres Arena at the Northside Speedway Track. The team previously operated from 1970 to 2018 and were based at Derwent Park Stadium which they shared with Workington Town Rugby League Football Club. They were closed at the end of the 2018 SGB Championship season, but re-opened in 2022 and competed in the 2023 National Development League speedway season. In 2024 they will return to the SGB Championship.
The Somerset Rebels were a British speedway team based in Highbridge, Somerset. Founded in 2000, the club competed in the British SGB Championship until 2019. Their home track was located at the Oak Tree Arena.

Two teams from the third tier of British speedway the National League Birmingham Brummies and Eastbourne Eagles moved up into this season's league while the Lakeside Hammers did not compete.
