Nautilus is a British ten-part adventure drama television series created by James Dormer. [2] It is a reimagining of Jules Verne's 1870 novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas , presenting an origin story for Captain Nemo, an Indian prince-turned-crusading scientist.

Contents

In August 2023, after filming was complete, it was announced Disney+, the original distributor, would not release the series. [3] In August 2024, Amazon Prime Video acquired the series for distribution in the United Kingdom and Ireland. [4] The series is set to be released on Amazon Prime Video on 25 October 2024. The series is set to be released in Australia through the streaming platform Stan on 25 October. [5]

Production

Development

In August 2021, it was announced that Disney+ had ordered Nautilus, a ten-part television series about the origin of Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus. [7] James Dormer writes the series, and also serves as executive producer with Xavier Marchand, Anand Tucker and Johanna Devereaux. [8] Moonriver TV and Seven Stories produce the series. [9] Michael Matthews joined as director in November 2021. [6] Cameron Welsh joined as series producer and Chris Loveall joined as executive producer in February 2022; [10] Colleen Woodcock and Daisy Gilbert were added as executive producers one year later. [4]

Casting

Shazad Latif was cast as Captain Nemo in November 2021. [6] In February 2022, Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Chum Ehelepola, Céline Menville, Kayden Price, and Damien Garvey were cast. [11] [10] In May 2022, Richard E. Grant joined the cast as a guest star. Muki Zubis, Benedict Hardie, Jacob Collins-Levy, Adolphus Waylee, Cameron Cuffe and Luke Arnold also joined the cast. [12]

Filming

Filming began in mid-February 2022 at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland. [11] [13] The series was expected to wrap in January 2023. [14] The series filmed at The Old Museum in Brisbane in May 2022, [15] and at the Queensland Parliament House in September. [16] [17] Filming was previously set to begin in December 2021. [6] Ben C. Lucas directed episodes 5, 6, and 7, [18] while Isabelle Sieb directed 3 episodes of the series. [19]

Release

Nautilus is distributed worldwide by Disney Entertainment. It was originally slated to stream on Disney+ in the United Kingdom before it was announced it would not be moving forward with the series. It first aired on SVT Play in Sweden on 12 June 2024. [20]

In October 2023, AMC announced it had acquired the series for broadcast in the United States and Canada in 2024, followed by Amazon Prime Video acquiring in the United Kingdom and Ireland in August 2024. [4] [21]

On 26 September 2024, Stan Australia announced that it acquired the series. [22] On 1 October, Stan announced the show would air from 25 October, with all episodes to release on the same day. [5]

Georgia Flood is an Australian film, television and theatre actress. After studying at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and the 16th Street Actors Studio in Melbourne, Flood made her stage debut in a production of Blackbird. She made a guest appearance in City Homicide in 2008, before she was cast as Charlotte Barker in Tangle. Flood went on to join the casts of House Husbands and Wentworth. In 2013, she was a runner-up for the Heath Ledger Scholarship Award. The following year, Flood starred in ANZAC Girls as Alice Ross-King. The role led to a nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries at the Golden Nymph Awards.

Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a group of American superhero films and television series produced by Marvel Studios based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. Phase Five features all of the Marvel Studios productions set to be released starting from 2023 to mid-2025, with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributing the films, while the series release on Disney+. Michael Matthews is a South African writer, producer and director. In 2017, he directed Five Fingers for Marseilles, a film that won best film category at 14th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

61st Street is an American legal drama television series created by Peter Moffat that premiered on AMC on April 10, 2022. A second season was produced; however, in January 2023, AMC decided against airing it. In May 2023, The CW acquired the series, rebroadcasting the first season in the US on July 22, 2023, on The CW app exclusively and then airing it on linear TV in October 2023. The second season premiered on July 22, 2024.
