David Julian Fawcett is an Australian Liberal Party politician who has been a Senator for South Australia since 2011. Fawcett served in the Morrison government as Assistant Minister for Defence from 2018 to 2019.
The Division of Barker is an Australian electoral division in the south-east of South Australia. The division was established on 2 October 1903,when South Australia's original single multi-member division was split into seven single-member divisions. It is named for Captain Collet Barker,a British military officer and early explorer,prior to the British Settlement of South Australia,of the southern Mount Lofty Ranges,Fleurieu Peninsula and the region at the mouth of the Murray River near the Coorong where he died in 1831 whilst on active duty after successfully solo swimming the channel of water and went compass in hand over a sandhill.

Suburbs included Alberton,Beverley,Birkenhead,Cheltenham,Findon,Kilkenny,Largs Bay,Mansfield Park,North Haven,Ottoway,Parafield Gardens,Paralowie,Pennington,Port Adelaide,Queenstown,Rosewater,Salisbury Downs,Semaphore,Woodville,West Croydon,and part of Seaton. The seat also included Torrens Island and Garden Island. Port Adelaide was abolished in 2019,after a redistribution triggered by a change in representation entitlement which saw South Australia's seats in the House of Representatives reduced to ten.

She has been a Labor member of the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2022 state election,representing Adelaide. With a swing of 7.1 per cent,she defeated the incumbent Liberal Party member,Rachel Sanderson,who had held the seat since 2010. Prior to the election,the ABC election analyst Antony Green stated that results in Adelaide have tracked closely with the seat being won by the party that won the state-wide two-party-preferred vote (2PP) at every election since 1985.
The 2022 South Australian Liberal Party leadership election was held on 19 April 2022 to elect a new leader of the South Australian Liberal Party,following the previous months' state election loss and resignation of then-leader Steven Marshall. The leadership contest was between three candidates:David Speirs,Josh Teague and Nick McBride. Speirs won the ballot contest by an overwhelming majority,succeeding Steven Marshall as leader and becoming the Leader of the Opposition.
