Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) is a consortium of MTR Corporation, John Holland, CPB Contractors, UGL Rail and Plenary Group that will build stations, procure trains and operate services on the Sydney Metro Northwest from 2019.

MTR Corporation Limited is a Hong Kong company listed on the Hong Kong Exchange, and a component of Hang Seng Index. MTR runs Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR), and is also a major property developer and landlord in Hong Kong. It also invests in railways in different parts in the world, and has obtained contracts to operate rapid transit systems in London, Stockholm, Beijing, Hangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen, Melbourne, and Sydney.

John Holland Group

The John Holland Group is a construction, tunnelling, rail, building and services provider with operations in Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the Middle East. Headquartered in Melbourne, it is a 100% owned subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, a Chinese state owned enterprise.

UGL Rail is an Australian rail company specialising in building, maintaining and refurbishing diesel locomotives, diesel & electric multiple units and freight wagons. It is a subsidiary of UGL Limited and is based in Melbourne, with a staff of 1,200 across Australia and Asia. It operates factories in Broadmeadow, Chullora, Spotswood and Bassendean. While it used to operate a factory in Taree, the plant has currently shut down and the equipment sold off.

History

In June 2014, NRT was selected by Transport for New South Wales to build stations, procure trains and operate services on the Sydney Metro Northwest network in a $3.7 billion public–private partnership. [1] [2] John Holland and CPB Contractors are currently building new stations at Tallawong, Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Bella Vista, Norwest, Hills Showground, Castle Hill and Cherrybrook. [3]

Sydney Metro Northwest

Sydney Metro Northwest is an under-construction rapid transit link to the north-western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Northwest Metro is being managed by Transport for NSW and will connect Rouse Hill to Chatswood via Castle Hill and Epping.

Tallawong railway station

Tallawong railway station, originally known as Cudgegong Road railway station, is an under construction station being built by the Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) consortium near the intersection of Cudgegong and Schofield Roads, Rouse Hill, in Sydney, Australia. The station is being built as the terminus of the Sydney Metro Northwest line to Chatswood that will later be extended through the Sydney central business district to Bankstown. Beyond the station lies a train depot.

Metro Trains Sydney Pty Ltd, a joint venture between MTR Corporation (60%), John Holland (20%) and UGL Rail (20%), will operate the network with a fleet of 22 Alstom Metropolis trains for 15 years when it opens in 2019. [4] [5] [6] The same companies are also partners in Metro Trains Melbourne that has operated the Melbourne suburban network since 2009. [7]

Alstom Metropolis

The Alstom Metropolis is a family of electric multiple units built by Alstom designed for high capacity rapid transit or metro rail infrastructure systems. The trains are in service in 22 major cities around the world, representing more than 3000 cars, including Singapore, Shanghai, Budapest, Warsaw, Nanjing, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Lima, Santiago, Chile, Barcelona, Istanbul, Santo Domingo, Chennai and Kochi. Amsterdam ordered 23 Metropolis trains; the first one came into operation June 2013. Xiamen also ordered some Metropolis trainsets for the Xiamen Metro. Trains can be run in configurations of 2 to 10 cars using manned or unmanned operations.

CRRC Nanjing Puzhen

CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. is a Chinese railway rolling stock manufacturer, based in Puzhen, Nanjing city. It is a subsidiary of CRRC. Nanjing Puzhen has supplied trains to Shanghai Metro Line 3 and Nanjing Metro in partnership with Alstom, and has been named as a future supplier of coaches for British operator Grand Central.

Rail transport in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's rail network mainly comprises public transport trains operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRC). The MTRC operates the metro network of Hong Kong and the commuter rail network connecting the northeastern and northwestern New Territories to the urban area. The operations of the territory's two leading railway companies, MTRC and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC), were merged in 2007 on grounds of economies of scale and cost effectiveness. The Hong Kong Government has an explicit stated transport policy of using the railway as its transport backbone.

The station is planned to eventually serve trains to the Sydney central business district, Bankstown and Hurstville as part of the government's 20-year Sydney's Rail Future strategy. Norwest Station takes its name from the 172-hectare Norwest Business Park, in which it is located.

Kellyville railway station

Kellyville is an elevated Sydney Metro Northwest station being built by Impregilo-Salini and Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) for Transport for New South Wales at Samantha Riley Drive, Kellyville, in Sydney, Australia. Train services from the station will run initially to Rouse Hill and Chatswood, with an expected journey time to Chatswood of around 33 minutes. As the New South Wales Government's Sydney's Rail Future strategy is delivered over the next 20 years, services are expected to be extended to the Sydney central business district (CBD), Bankstown and Hurstville. Kellyville Station is planned to open in 2019.

Bella Vista railway station

The station is being built as part of Transport for New South Wales's Sydney Metro Northwest project, to serve future train services to Rouse Hill and Chatswood. The station is planned to eventually serve trains to the Sydney central business district, Bankstown and Hurstville as part of the government's 20-year Sydney's Rail Future strategy.

New Intercity Fleet

The New Intercity Fleet is a fleet of 554 new carriages being built to replace NSW TrainLink's Intercity electric multiple unit fleet, replacing the entire V set fleet and allowing for the H sets to be reallocated to Sydney suburban services. The trains will operate on services from Sydney to Newcastle, Lithgow and Kiama. The trains are scheduled to enter service between 2019 and 2022.

The system will link several suburbs with Downtown Montreal via Central Station. It involves the conversion of the existing Deux-Montagnes commuter rail line to rapid transit standards. A station at Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport will serve as the terminus of one of the four branches.

Sydney Metro City & Southwest is a 30 km (19 mi) rapid transit railway line in Sydney, Australia currently under construction. The project will extend Sydney Metro Northwest from Chatswood on the North Shore, to Bankstown in the city's south-west via the Sydney central business district. The centrepiece of the project is a new 15.5 km (9.6 mi) twin-tunnel rail crossing under Sydney Harbour and through the city to Sydenham. Together with planned improvements to the Main Western line, the project is expected to increase capacity on the Sydney rail network by up to 60%, and allow for the movement of over 100,000 extra commuters across the network every hour.

Sydney Metro (2008 proposal)

Sydney Metro was a proposed rapid transit railway network in Sydney, Australia, intended to connect the central business district (CBD) with Rouse Hill, Westmead, Malabar and the lower North Shore. Initially proposed in 2008 as ‘Metro Link’, the plan was modified and renamed later that year and – after half a billion dollars was spent on planning, property acquisitions and a tender process – finally cancelled in 2010.
