Norway national rugby union team (Norwegian: Norges nasjonale rugbyunionsteam) represents Norway in men's international rugby union competitions, It's a member of the Rugby Europe and plays in Rugby Europe's Conference 2- North Championship.

Contents

Norway's once-captain and a rare professional player is Erik Lund, who played until 2010 at lock for Leeds Carnegie. Erik is the brother of England international Magnus Lund, and joined him at Biarritz Olympique in France from autumn 2010. Lund had been unavailable to play for Norway since 2006, however played for Norway in May 2010 against Slovenia.

The national side is ranked 100th in the world (as of 8 August 2022).

Current squad

Norway's Training Squad for the 2016/17 Rugby Europe Conference 2- North Championship. Norway lost to Hungary; 41-7 (32-0), on 22 April in Eztergom. They defeated Estonia, 43-16 (17-13) on 6 May, in Oslo.

Rugby league is a growing team sport in Norway. The sport is administered there by Rugby League Norge, which was set up in late 2008. Rugby League Norge works according to RLEF and NIF laws.

Women's international rugby union has a history going back to the late 19th century, but it was not until 1982 that the first international fixture involving women's rugby union took place. The match was organised in connection with the Dutch Rugby Union's 50th anniversary: as part of the celebrations, on June 13, 1982, the France national women's team played the Netherlands in Utrecht, Netherlands, with France winning 4–0 in a game that has since been recognised as the first ever women's international rugby union match.

The Turkey national rugby union team is a relatively recent creation, being started at the end of 2009. Turkey is currently a third-tier side. The team first played in 2012 against Slovakia and won 31–5 in Bratislava. On tour, they also defeated Estonia 49–5 in Tallinn. Turkey has yet to play in the qualifying stages for the Rugby World Cup finals.

The Turkey women's national rugby sevens team represents Turkey at rugby sevens – however it has yet to play any recognised international matches. Rugby union in Turkey is administered by the Turkish Rugby Federation. At present, the Federation is not a member of World Rugby and so, currently, any internationals it may play are unlikely to be widely recognised. The Nordic Cup is a rugby league tournament played annually between Denmark national rugby league team, Norway and Sweden. It was first played in 2011, in which Denmark claimed the trophy with victory over Norway at Gladsaxe Stadium in Greater Copenhagen. For the first three years, the tournament was acknowledged by the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF), but the games were not recognised as full internationals. In 2014, the fixtures were played in accordance with RLEF regulations and recognised as full internationals.

The 2017–18 Rugby Europe Conference is the third-level rugby union competition below the premier Championship and Trophy competitions. It is the second Conference under its new format. After Czech Republic was promoted to the Trophy and Ukraine relegated at the end of the 2016–17 season, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Sweden and Ukraine compete for the Conference 1 title. While after the relegation of Turkey and the promotion of Slovakia, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Luxembourg, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia and Slovakia will compete for the Conference 2 title.
