Nuthakki Bhanu Prasad (1928-2013) was an Indian chemical engineer, bureaucrat and a former chairman of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC). [1] [2] He is credited with the design of the first Magnesium Plant in India in 1994 [1] and was involved with the commissioning of Apsara research reactor, [3] [4] the first Indian atomic reactor. [5] The Government of India honoured him in 1960, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation. [6]
Nuthakki Bhanu Prasad was born on 21 February 1928 at Vijayawada in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to Punnamma and Nutakki Ramaseshaiah, a former Member of Parliament and Minister of Health at the Government of Odisha. [1] He did his early education at Parvatipuram and Visakhapatanam and obtained his graduate degree in mechanical engineering with honours from Madras University in 1947. [5] Moving to Purdue University, he obtained a master's degree (MS) in chemical engineering. [7] This was followed by advanced research at Case Institute of Technology (1953) and returned to India the same year to join Aluminium Company of Canada, Montreal at its Kolkata subsidiary to work for a year. [1]
In 1954, he joined the Department of Atomic Energy as the Head of Reactor Group and worked there till 1961. [8] During this period, he also served as the project manager of CIRUS reactor from 1958 to 1961 when he retired from DAE service. [1] From 1962 to 1974, he was associated with various private sector companies such as AFM, SEL, OXEECO, PIPL in the capacities of a director or managing director. In 1974, he was appointed the chairman of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission, a position he held till 1978. [1] From 1978 to 1980, he served as a government secretary in the Ministry of Power, followed by a stint at the World Bank as a consultant based in Washington DC till 1992. [1] Simultaneously, he held the post of the chairman of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation from 1986 to 1988 and later, served as a member of its board of governors. [9] He also served as a board member of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (1965–79) and Indian Overseas Bank (1969-78). [1]
Bhanu Prasad was married to Pendyala Ananthalakshmi and the couple had four sons. [1] He died on 29 April 2013 at Hyderabad at the age of 85. [2]
Nuthakki Bhanu Prasad was associated in three major Indian ventures such as the first nuclear reactor in Trombay, development of Bombay High oil fields and the first Indian magnesium plant. [1] [2] [5] He is a recipient of Honoris Causa degrees of Doctor of Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (975) and Doctor of Philosophy from Andhra University (1978). He was an elected member of the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, a founder member of Hyderabad Management Association and a former president of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCI) and the Institute of Public Enterprise. [1] [5] In 1960, the Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of Padma Shri. [2] [5] [10] He received the Petrotech Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. [11]

Chittoor Mohammed Habeebullah was an Indian gastroenterologist, known for his contributions to the medical discipline of gastroenterology in India. Born in 1937 in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Habeebullah graduated in medicine (MBBS) from the Guntur Medical College in 1958, after which he secured his master's degree in general medicine (MD) from Andhra University and DM from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He started his career as an assistant professor at the Department of Gastroenterology, Osmania Medical College and served as the professor and the Head of the Department from 1975 to 1992 and thereafter as the principal till 1994. He also served as the Director, Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics, Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and as the Director of Medical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was a 1997 Fellow of The National Academy of Sciences, India and had many scientific publications to his credit. A recipient of the Khwarizmi International Award in 1997, Habeebullah was honored by the Government of India, in 2001, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri. He died on 10 July 2010, falling to a cardiac arrest.

Atluri Sriman Narayana is an Indian dental surgeon, a former Professor of Dental Surgery in Government Dental College, Hyderabad and a former State Coordinator of the Andhra Pradesh School Health Services known for the free dental camps he has conducted across the villages in Andhra Pradesh since 1974. He founded the Sai Oral Health Foundation, under the aegis of which he makes weekly trips to the rural areas of the state, conducts medical camps and delivers lectures at schools educating the rural masses about oral hygiene. His efforts are reported to have reached 1.5 million children in 20,000 schools.
Challagalla Narasimham was an Indian civil servant and author, known for his contributions for the modernization of Jubilee Hills area in Greater Hyderabad in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh He was a former Indian Administrative Service officer and Commissioner of Chennai Corporation from 1947 to 1953 who developed several townships in Chennai, in Tamil Nadu. The story of his life has been documented in his autobiography, Me and My Times, published in 1986. The Government of India honoured him in 1962, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation.

Vanaja Iyengar was an Indian mathematician, educationist and the founder vice-chancellor of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati, in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
