One Chance is a 2013 British biographical film about opera singer and Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts, [4] directed by David Frankel and written by Justin Zackham. It was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. [5]
The film also features archival footage of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, and Ant & Dec from Britain's Got Talent .
Director David Frankel reduced his directing fee of US$6 million to US$1.2 million in exchange for a larger share of the film's gross. [6] One Chance was shot in Italy and the United Kingdom. [7] [8]
The film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September 2013 and released in cinemas on 25 October 2013.
As of October 2021 [update] it holds an approval rating of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 59 reviews, with an average rating of 5.5/10; the consensus states: "Predictable and sentimental, yet thoroughly agreeable, One Chance is an unapologetic crowd-pleaser that achieves its admittedly modest goals." [9] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 49 out of 100 based on reviews from 12 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". [10]

The soundtrack was released in the United Kingdom on 21 October 2013. [11] It was released in the United States the next day via digital download with two extra tracks by The London Session Orchestra, [12] a CD was released on 7 January 2014. [13] It was scored by Theodore Shapiro. [14] "Sweeter Than Fiction" by Taylor Swift was included on the soundtrack and was released as the lead single on 21 October 2013 by Big Machine Records. [15] The single received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 71st Golden Globe Awards. [16]

Police Academy is a series of American comedy films, the first six of which were made in the 1980s and the seventh in 1994. The series opened with Police Academy (1984), which started with the premise that a new mayor had announced a policy requiring the police department to accept all willing recruits. The film followed a group of misfit recruits in their attempts to prove themselves capable of being police officers, and succeeding both in spite of and because of their eccentricities. The main character in the first four films, Carey Mahoney, is a repeat offender forced to join the police academy as punishment. The seventh and to date last installment, Mission to Moscow, was released in 1994. In September 2018, Guttenberg announced that a new Police Academy film was in development.

He also created the FX TV series Lights Out. Zackham coined the term "bucket list" with his screenplay for the film, inspired by his own "List of Things to do Before I Kick the Bucket", which he shortened to "Justin's Bucket List".
Paul Potts is an English tenor. In 2007, he won the first series of ITV's Britain's Got Talent with his performance of "Nessun dorma", an aria from Puccini's opera Turandot. As a singer of operatic pop music, Potts recorded the album One Chance, which topped sales charts in 13 countries. Before winning Britain's Got Talent, Potts was a manager at Carphone Warehouse. He had been a Bristol city councillor from 1996 until 2003, and performed in amateur opera from 1999 to 2003.
