Podothecus is a genus of poachers native to the northern Pacific Ocean.
There are currently five recognized species in this genus: [2] [3]
The Squaliformes are an order of sharks that includes about 126 species in seven families.
Agonidae is a family of small, bottom-dwelling, cold-water marine fish. Common names for members of this family include poachers, Irish lords, sea ravens, alligatorfishes, starsnouts, hooknoses, and rockheads. They are notable for having elongated bodies covered by scales modified into bony plates, and for using their large pectoral fins to move in short bursts. The family includes about 59 species in some 25 genera, some of which are quite widespread.
The Platycephalidae are a family of marine fish, most commonly referred to as flatheads. They are relatives of the popular lionfish, belonging to the order Scorpaeniformes.
Cyprinella is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae, the carps and minnows. They are known as the satinfin shiners. They are native to North America, and some are among the most common freshwater fish species on the eastern side of the continent. Conversely, several Cyprinella species with small distributions are threatened and the Maravillas Creek subspecies of the red shiner is extinct.
Chirostoma is a genus of Neotropical silversides from the Lerma River basin in Mexico, including lakes Chapala and Pátzcuaro. Fish in the genus collectively go by the common name charal/charales in their native range. They are heavily fished, but several of the species have become threatened due to habitat loss, introduced species and overfishing. Three species are considered extinct: C. bartoni, C. charari (1957) and C. compressum (1900). Four others have not been recorded recently and may also be extinct.
Scaphirhynchus is a genus of sturgeons native to North America. All species in this genus are considered to be threatened with extinction or worse. As of 2023, the pallid sturgeon and the Alabama sturgeon are critically endangered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Agonomalus is a genus of poachers native to the Pacific Ocean.
Agonopsis is a genus of poachers native to the Pacific Ocean.
Bothragonus is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Agonidae, the poachers and related fishes. It is the only genus in monotypic subfamily Bothragoninae. These fishes are found in the northern Pacific Ocean.
Hypsagonus is a genus of poachers native to the northern Pacific Ocean.
Occella is a genus of poachers native to the northern Pacific Ocean.
Sarritor is a genus of poachers native to the northern Pacific Ocean.
Artediellus is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. Most of the fishes in this genus are found in the northern Pacific Ocean but they also occur in the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans.
Furcina is a small genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. This species is found in the northwestern Pacific Ocean from around Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Hemilepidotus, the Irish lords, is a genus of ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Agonidae, the poachers and sea ravens. These fishes are found in northern Pacific, northern Atlantic and the Arctic Oceans.
Pseudoblennius is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. These fishes are found in the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
The northern spearnose poacher, also known as the window-tailed sea-poacher or the windowtail poacher, is a fish in the family Agonidae. It was described by David Starr Jordan and Charles Henry Gilbert in 1880, originally under the genus Agonus. It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling fish which is known from the eastern Pacific Ocean, including southeastern Alaska to southern California, USA. It dwells at a depth range of 0 to 163 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 20 centimetres (7.9 in).
The sturgeon poacher, also known as the sturgeon-like sea-poacher in Canada, is a fish in the family Agonidae. It was described by Wilhelm Gottlieb Tilesius von Tilenau in 1813. It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling fish which is known from the northern Pacific Ocean, including the western Bering Sea, Cape Navarin, the Commander Islands, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Aleutian Islands, and northern California, USA. It dwells at a depth range of 2 to 710 metres, and inhabits soft benthic sediments. Males can reach a maximum total length of 30.5 centimetres (12.0 in).
Podothecus sachi(Japanese poacher: Tokubireトクビレ) is a fish in the family Agonidae. It was described by David Starr Jordan and John Otterbein Snyder in 1901.
The veteran poacher is a fish in the family Agonidae. It was described by David Starr Jordan and Edwin Chapin Starks in 1895. It is a marine, polar water-dwelling fish which is known from the northwestern Pacific Ocean, including Peter the Great Bay; Robben Island, Sakhalin; and the Sea of Okhotsk. It dwells at a depth range 10 to 605 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 28 centimetres (11 in).
