The posterior ethmoidal nerve is a nerve of the orbit around the eye. It is a branch of the nasociliary nerve from the ophthalmic nerve (CN V1). It supplies sensation to the sphenoid sinus, the ethmoid sinus, and part of the dura mater in the anterior cranial fossa.

Paranasal sinuses are a group of four paired air-filled spaces that surround the nasal cavity. The anterior ethmoidal artery is a branch of the ophthalmic artery in the orbit. It exits the orbit through the anterior ethmoidal foramen alongside the anterior ethmoidal nerve. It contributes blood supply to the ethmoid sinuses, frontal sinuses, the dura mater, lateral nasal wall, and masal septum. It issues a meningeal branch, and nasal branches.
The external nasal nerve is a terminal branch of the anterior ethmoidal nerve. The trigeminal nerve branches into three nerves, one of which is the ophthalmic nerve, which itself has three branches, one of which is the nasociliary nerve. One of the terminal branches of the nasociliary nerve is the anterior ethmoidal nerve. The anterior ethmoidal nerve divides into a lateral nasal branch and medial nasal branch.The medial nasal branch after giving off sensory branches to the anterior and upper parts of the nasal septum, emerges from beneath the inferior nasal margin to form the external nasal nerve. The external nasal nerve provides sensory innervation to the skin of the external nose to the tip.

It is formed by the orbital plates of the frontal, the cribriform plate of the ethmoid, and the small wings and front part of the body of the sphenoid; it is limited behind by the posterior borders of the small wings of the sphenoid and by the anterior margin of the chiasmatic groove. The lesser wings of the sphenoid separate the anterior and middle fossae.
The posterior ethmoidal artery is an artery of the head which arises from the ophthalmic artery to supply the posterior ethmoidal air cells, and the meninges. It is smaller than the anterior ethmoidal artery.
The base of skull, also known as the cranial base or the cranial floor, is the most inferior area of the skull. It is composed of the endocranium and the lower parts of the calvaria.
