Proof Range is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the eastern coastline of Gulf St Vincent about 74 kilometres (46 miles) north-northwest of the state capital of Adelaide and about 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) south of the town centre of Port Wakefield. [2] Its boundaries were created in January 2000 in respect of the “long established name.” [1] Its name is derived from the use of the land within its extent for the testing of weapons and ammunition as part of the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Establishment. South Australia is a state in the southern central part of Australia. It covers some of the most arid parts of the country. Gulf St Vincent is a large inlet of water on the southern coast of Australia, in the state of South Australia. It is bordered by Yorke Peninsula on its west, the mainland and Fleurieu Peninsula to its east, with its entrance being a line from Troubridge Point on Yorke Peninsula to Cape Jervis on Fleurieu Peninsula.
Adelaide city centre is the innermost locality of Greater Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is known by locals simply as "The City" or "Town" to distinguish it from Greater Adelaide and from the City of Adelaide. Wild Horse Plains is a locality in South Australia located on the eastern coastline of Gulf St Vincent about 69 kilometres north-northwest of the Adelaide city centre. Its name is attributed to Thomas Day who found wild horses grazing within the locality circa 1870. Its boundaries were created in June 1997 and include the town of Wild Horse Plains, established in 1881 and located on Port Wakefield Road, and the “ceased Government Town of Lorne”. Port Lorne Road, which marks most of the northern boundary of Wild Horse Plains, refers to the same former town.
Port Arthur is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Yorke Peninsula at the northern end of Gulf St Vincent about 100 kilometres north west of the state capital of Adelaide and about 9 kilometres north of the town of Port Wakefield.

As of 2014, the majority of the land within the locality is zoned as “water protection” to protect groundwater basins present at “shallow depths” and to encourage land use such as “broadacre cropping, grazing, and wind farm and ancillary development.” White Hut is within the federal division of Grey, the state electoral district of Narungga and the local government area of the Yorke Peninsula Council.
