South Hummocks is a locality in the Mid North of South Australia at the head of Gulf St Vincent adjacent to Yorke Peninsula on the southeastern slopes of the Hummock Range.
Most of South Hummocks is part of the Hundred of Kulpara in the District Council of Barunga West, but a strip along the northern and eastern sides is part of Hundred of Cameron and Hundred of Goyder in the Wakefield Regional Council. For federal elections, it is in the federal Division of Grey. It is in the state electoral district of Narungga. [2] [1]
South Hummocks formerly had a government school and a church. [3] The former South Hummocks railway station on the Port Wakefield–Moonta railway line was just over the southern boundary in the locality of Port Arthur. The school opened in 1882 and closed in 1945. The post office opened in 1869, closed 1917 to 1925, then finally closed again in 1952. [4]
Snowtown is a town located in the Mid North of South Australia 145 km north of Adelaide and lies on the main road and rail routes between Adelaide and Perth – the Augusta Highway and Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line. The town's elevation is 103 metres and on average the town receives 389 mm of rainfall per annum.

Lochiel is a small town in the Mid North of South Australia 125 km (78 mi) north of Adelaide. The town lies beside on the western edge of Lake Bumbunga and at the eastern foot of the Hummocks Range. The Augusta Highway, a section of Highway 1, runs on a strip between the township and the lake, which dwarfs the former.
Nantawarra is a locality in South Australia located about 120 kilometres north of the Adelaide city centre and within the local government area known as the Wakefield Regional Council. The locality occupies land on both sides of Highway 1 between Port Wakefield in the south and Snowtown in the north. Nantawarra is recognisable from a distance by the presence of grain silos immediately just east of the Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line. The name Nantawarra may derive from the word nantuwara in Kaurna, the language of the indigenous people of this part of South Australia.
Mundoora is a settlement in South Australia, 16 km inland from Port Broughton, to which it was connected by a horse-drawn railway around 1876. Its tram, dubbed "The Pie Cart", which was described as a "kind of second-hand coffin drawn by one horse" and still in operation in 1923 was later relegated to the Railways Museum and the line dismantled. At the 2006 census, Mundoora had a population of 248.
Bumbunga is a locality in the Mid North of South Australia 125 kilometres (78 mi) north of Adelaide. It lies 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of Lake Bumbunga.
Agery is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on Yorke Peninsula. It is situated 17 km south-east of Moonta. Its name comes from the Aboriginal word ngadjali meaning "pipe clay".
Wild Horse Plains is a locality in South Australia on the eastern coastline of Gulf St Vincent about 69 kilometres north-northwest of the Adelaide city centre. Its name is attributed to Thomas Day, who found wild horses grazing within the locality around 1870. Its boundaries, created in June 1997, include the town of Wild Horse Plains, established in 1881 on Port Wakefield Road, and the former Government Town of Lorne. Port Lorne Road marks most of the northern boundary of Wild Horse Plains and is the access road to the former township of Lorne.

Its boundaries were created in January 2000 in respect of the “long established name.” Its name is derived from the use of the land within its extent for the testing of weapons and ammunition as part of the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Establishment. Proof Range is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Narungga and the local government area known as the Wakefield Regional Council.
