Ultravox were a British new wave band,formed in London in April 1974 as Tiger Lily. Between 1980 and 1986,they scored seven Top Ten albums and seventeen Top 40 singles in the UK,the most successful of which was their 1981 hit "Vienna".
William Lee Currie is a British multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Huddersfield,England. He is best known as the keyboard and strings player with new wave band Ultravox,who achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1980s.
Christopher Thomas Allen,known professionally as Chris Cross,was an English musician,best known as the bass guitarist in the new wave band Ultravox. After starting his music career with Stoned Rose,a band in Preston,Lancashire,he was one of the founding members of the band Tiger Lily in April 1974,before the band was renamed Ultravox! over two years later. The band's most successful single,"Vienna",was released in 1981.
Visage were a British synth-pop band formed in London in 1978. The band became closely linked to the burgeoning New Romantic fashion movement of the early 1980s,and are best known for their hit "Fade to Grey" which was released in late 1980. In the UK,the band achieved two Top 20 albums and five Top 30 singles before the commercial failure of their third album led to their breakup in 1985.
James "Midge" Ure is a Scottish singer-songwriter and record producer. His stage name,Midge,is a phonetic reversal of Jim. Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Slik,Thin Lizzy,Rich Kids,Visage,and as the second bandleader of Ultravox after John Foxx had left,carrying the band into the high charts positions for the six following years before disbanding it. In 1984,he co-wrote and produced the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" putting together for the occasion the supergroup Band Aid. The single has sold 3.7 million copies in the UK at first release,and has become a staple of Christmas songs compilations ever since. The song is the second-highest-selling single in UK chart history. Ure co-organised Band Aid and the events Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. He acts as a trustee for the charity and also serves as an ambassador for Save the Children.
"Vienna" is a song by British new wave band Ultravox,released on 9 January 1981 by Chrysalis Records as the third single and the title track from their fourth studio album of the same name. The new wave ballad,which features Midge Ure on lead vocals,is regarded as a staple of the synth-pop genre that was popularised in the early 1980s,and remains both the band's signature song and their most commercially successful release.
The Golden Section is a 1983 album by English musician John Foxx. A progression from the sound of The Garden (1981),Foxx called The Golden Section "a roots check:Beatles,Church music,Psychedelia,The Shadows,The Floyd,The Velvets,Roy Orbison,Kraftwerk,and cheap pre-electro Europop". The album was Foxx's first work with a producer since his final Ultravox album,Systems of Romance,in 1978;The Golden Section was co-produced by Zeus B. Held,well known in the Krautrock scene of the 1970s. In addition to Foxx's wide array of synthesizers,the production made extensive use of vocoder effects and sampling,along with traditional rock guitar.
"Hymn" is a song from Ultravox's sixth studio album Quartet. Released as the album's second single on 19 November 1982,it reached #11 on the UK Singles Chart and the Top 10 in Germany and Switzerland.
Warren Reginald Cann is a Canadian drummer and songwriter. He was a founding member of the British new wave band Ultravox.
Darren Leigh Wharton is a British keyboardist,singer and songwriter. He has fronted his own band,Dare,since 1985,but first came to attention as a member of Thin Lizzy. In 2023,Wharton launched a second band alongside Dare,Darren Wharton's Renegade. His son,Paris,is also a musician.
The Anvil is the second studio album by the British synth-pop band Visage,released in March 1982 by Polydor Records. The album reached No. 6 in the UK and was certified "Silver" by the British Phonographic Industry in April 1982.

Quartet is the sixth studio album by the British new wave band Ultravox. The album peaked at number six on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI in December 1982 for 100,000 copies sold. It also peaked at number 13 in Germany,and at number 61 in the United States.
Lament is the seventh studio album by British new wave band Ultravox,released on 6 April 1984 by Chrysalis Records. It was the last album featuring original drummer Warren Cann until the band's reunion album Brilliant in 2012. The album peaked at number eight on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on 8 June 1984 for shipments of 100,000 copies. It also reached number 25 in Germany and number 115 in the United States.

Dancing with Tears in My Eyes is a 1995 compilation from British band Ultravox covering their output with Midge Ure,recorded from 1980 to 1986. The album was released by EMI in the label's "Music For Pleasure" series. It was re-released in 1996 by the Disky label with the same title,then in 1997 by EMI as The Best of Ultravox in the label's "Centenary Collection",and again in 2003,again with the latter title.
Vienna is the fourth studio album by British new wave band Ultravox,first released on 11 July 1980 through Chrysalis Records. Vienna was Ultravox's first album with their best-known line-up,after Midge Ure had taken over as lead vocalist and guitarist following the departures of John Foxx and Robin Simon,as well as the group's first release for Chrysalis. The album peaked at number 3 in the UK Albums Chart and reached the top ten in Australia,New Zealand and several European countries.
Messengers were a Scottish new wave duo consisting of Danny Mitchell and Colin King. The duo were originally part of Modern Man,a Glasgow post-punk/new wave band discovered by Midge Ure of Ultravox. Modern Man disbanded after releasing one album produced by Ure,Concrete Scheme (1980),after which Ure stayed as producer with Mitchell and King as Messengers.
Pure,released 16 September 1991,is the third solo album by former Ultravox frontman Midge Ure. It was the first release by Ure with a new record label BMG-Arista. The first single "Cold Cold Heart" reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1991. "I See Hope in the Morning Light" and "Let It Go?" were also released as singles. The album has a blend of ethnic rhythms and clean album-oriented rock pop,pervaded by catchy hooks.
